Chi Zhuzi Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Substance addiction. Many more. With alcohol, substance abuse. I recently got 5 staples taken out of the top of my head. I helped a childhood friend beat someone up. My friend attacked him with a pipe but in the course of the battle, he accidentally struck me on the head, as I was leaned over striking the guy with my fists. My friend was drunk. Violence and alcohol has a significant part in the lives of most men in my vicinity. Cocaine as well, for a good number.

Mark of the Cross Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 (edited) At confession a priest told me that things like fear and anger were emotions, which are not sins. It's how we deal with them that makes them a sin or not.
Self harm.
Prayers for you. I'm 'mentally interesting'. If you have a momentary feeling of anger or fear it's not sinful, it's a normal human reaction. If you entertain those feelings, then that's where it crosses the line.

Fear is caused by brain chemistry! For an agoraphobic to walk into the supermarket can require more courage than a base jumper requires to jump off of a building. It is very important to me to do it perfectly when I'm an EMHC, right down to my facial expressions and to my voice inflection. I sometimes feel fear before hand! Is that a sin?
