Should Beards Be Mandatory

I think so.. Beards just give off a holier vibe to me. Can anyone imagine Moses without a beard, or St. Peter? No I didn't think so. If enough people agree, I think we should circulate a petition or at least a request.

On a more serious note, when the Catholic priests start getting awesome beards, we can begin to challenge the Orthodox priests for interstellar domination.

So, facial hair.. discuss

Apparently, he just didn't wash it. Probably how it got all cool and dreadlockish. If I were a priest, I'd rock a beard like that.

None of us have ever seen the real Moses' beard, or the real St. Peter's beard (or Paul, or Thomas, or any of the rest of them). All we've seen are hypothetical depictions of the partriarchs, apostles, and saints - stereotypes, if you will - created by usually-money-grubbing, probably-illiterate, and no-doubt-pantywaist artists who exaggerated their subjects to impossible perfection in not-so-subtly-desperate attempts to please their equally money-grubbing, probably-illiterate, and no-doubt-pantywaist patrons, just as today's television & movie producers do their subjects and patrons.

In actual fact, their beards were probably scraggly rather than full, dirty gray rather than glowing white, louse-infested attempts to hide growing double chins - Vanity of vanities! All is vanity! - that smelled of garlic and olive oil, rather than being any kind of sartotial statement about poverty or spirituality. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

And BTW, in the immediate post-Vatican II era, weren't beards on priests interpreted as signs of rebellion or something? Who changed the interpretation, and when?

(All of the above is offered in the spirit of sarcasm, overblown high dudgeon, and witty repartee. For what it's worth.)

I tend to think that Moses had a magnificent beard!! He is, after all, the patriarch of patriarchs! The olive oil and garlic just help it get cool and dready.

Don't worry before you know it you will have one to shave all the time. I was 22 before I could grow a full beard, I always had missing spots on my lower cheeks, just bald spots. Then when it finally did come in I got all kinds of comments such as "shave that mess off", " that looks like mange growing on the dog" ," why don,t you dye it all one color so it looks like a real beard" and my mom who said " what happened to my sons handsome face? ", thank God for moms. Being Irish I had a lot of red in my beard, also black hair and brown as well as blond hair mixed in to just confuse the issue. Well at least it covered all the areas it was supposed to.

I disagree, I believe once the Catholic priests start getting awesome beards, we should join forces with the Orthodox priests, and challenge the Amish and Orthodox Jews for interstellar domination!!!!!!

Speaking of hair... what is with Paul not wanting guys to have long hair? If its so terrible why do we depict Jesus, Moses, etc with long hair?

Didn't VII basically state that the clergy aren't the only ones to strive for holiness, but the laity as well? Therefore, beards for everyone!
