Cam42 Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 (edited) Sooooooo....I'm home at Mom and Dad's for Easter. [mod]Negative criticism of religious. -dUSt[/mod] Good Friday service.... 1. He stayed vested for the whole service. He didn't remove the chasuble once, or even his shoes for that matter. 2. There was all sorts of music used throughout the whole of the service...syntesizer, piano, organ. 3. No Holy Water 4. The Blessed Sacrament was simply set "around" the tabernacle of repose, the tabernacle was too small to hold all of the consecrated hosts, apparently. 5. He was the only male to participate in the whole of the service. 6. No corpus upon the cross of veneration...veneration was allowed in whatever manner one wanted....I was one of three people to kiss the cross. There were several hundred...most bowed (simplex). 7. No prostration by the celebrant. 8. Finally, the Blessed Sacrament was returned to the main tabernacle after Holy Communion. Jesus never left the sanctuary in my parents parish this Triduum. I feel another letter is forthcoming....the parish family at St. Mary's is being deprived of the Sacraments, ceremonies, and services which give them a Catholic identity. I am genuinely frightened for tomorrow night. As M.G. [/quote] I wrote a very nice letter to him regarding the liturgical action at St. Mary's several months ago. I received a response and I returned the correspondence promptly, to which I have not heard back. Apparently he doesn't like being called on the carpet for being an abuser of the Liturgy. This letter is available for viewing at another forum, as it was written during my exile from phatmass, if you'd like to read it.

[/quote] Yes there are rubrics. And the "service" is properly called the Mass of the Presanctified. The problem is that no one calls it that any longer.

[/quote] Agreed ... and how about the thousands of people who do not have a full time priest nearby and can only have Mass once in a while. They wouldn't have had a Good Friday service either. I'm thankful for all of the priests that the Lord has called to His service, and for the blessing of having the Eucharist daily, and the blessing of having confession too. And ... [/quote] It is far better to have a priest who is 100% orthodox and follows the precepts of the Church to the fullest on a sporatic level than to have a priest who is heterodox and simply does things the way he wants and teaches humanism as a form of Catholicism. I'll take the sporatic priest anytime over what I had to endure today.

The line for confession was so long the priest simply stayed in front of the altar instead of going into the confessional. He told everyone to be very brief. It was nice confessing my sins in clear site of the empty tabernacle. The line went all the way back down the center isle, around the back of the church, and all the way back down the side isle. I actually got through reading 5 of the 7 secrets in the book, "7 Secrets of the Eucharist" that the_rev recommended. After that, I went home and watched "The Passion of the Christ" with my family and another family. It was my daughters first time seeing it. It was an amesome day.

And my confession was in the sacristy, we had the cantor walk in on us and apologize profusely as she backed out the door. And she also said she was happy to see a university student being ministered to since we're a university parish lol. Ditto on watching Passion of the Christ...how'd your daughter do with it?
