Yes I love her too. I have read a few biographies of her and am extremely impressed. I am hoping to be able to get hold of 'God made the Violet too' as it seems to be the only full length biography but is out of print :priest:

To be honest, I'm not sure I like the setup of the film. It seems too cheesy and play-like. Maybe it's just me? :idontknow:

I was finally able to see the video clip on broadband and I was very disappointed with the acting. I guess I was expecting something along the lines of Teresa of the Andes or Teresa of Avila. But I would watch it anyway, just for the subject matter. Leonie is a courageous example of never giving up, despite all obstacles.

I appreciate the efforts but I do not like the acting either (can't get over that angry Visitadine and the scared older Visitadine).

I wish to know more about the Martin family. I've seen a book entitled "My Sister Therese" by one of her blood sisters (forgot who) and it's just amazing. St. Therese is an inspiration for me.

I concur on the "bad acting" however, I am particularly sensitive to that having spent nearly 25 years in theatre as an actress.

Although few and far between there are movies out there about Catholic saints who have garnered quality actors such as Sergio Castellitto who played St. Padre Pio in the movie "Miracle Man" or Ettore Bassi who played St. Giuseppe Moscati in "Doctor to the Poor" and of course the wonderful Concha Velasco who played Teresa of Avila back in 1980.

I would not be able to sit through this movie though, although the story is probably inspiring. I honestly could barely sit through "Therese" because the acting was so stale.

So far other than watching Santa Teresa De Los Andes, I have been sorely dissapointed in the Carmelite Saint movies. All of them on St. Therese de Lisieux were to childlike and naive for someone like me to be truly inspired by her little way (unlike her auto-biography).

i agree, we don't need sappy movies about saints, we need to witness the sacrifice, the pain, the suffering, the interior life of the saint...and I guess just a little of the sappy stuff, to illustrate the fullness of the Saint...

Thank you ever so much for that link! I really want to watch this film, just because I am so fond of Léonie!

If you want to watch a film about Thérèse, try the French one, by Alain Cavalier.

It describes her sufferings so well, such as animosity in the convent, her agony, etc. It shows harshness of convent life too.

Very different from the American film that is very namby pamby but nice too.

This seems to me as it's a "labor of love" put together by amateurs.

That is not a bad thing! Heavens knows I do many worse things with my time and money.

But don't expect it to be winning any Oscars ...
