A request for prayers to go along with the feast.....a young woman from my parish is entering the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (www.carmelslc.org) this morning.
Please rejoice with all of us!

blessings, linnie

Here we are, a reminder of our early forerunners

Note the striped mantles, meant to represent the marks left by Elijah's chariot wheels! This was changed to the current white fairly early due to the common belief that stripes were the marks of the Devil.

Yep, used to be seen that way. Read a very interesting book on the subject actually but can't remember the title...

This is it The Devil's Cloth. The author has written a number of books on colour in religion. Its a translation from French so a little 'jumpy' in places but very interesting.

I want to post a flockdraw painting I created a while back, in honor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel:

Is THAT why they used to make prisoner's wear the sterotypical black and white striped uniforms?! They were off commiting the "devil's work" I guess!

Wow, you need to spend less time associating with me I think. Or possibly more. Ah what the heck lets just change the blog name to Team Carm now and get it over with :smile2:
