Profession Video

Sadly the quality isnt great, mainly the sound, but this is Sr Desiree's profession from 30th Nov. If you look at the far end at the welcome (ubi caritas) you might spot a misfit, wearing street clothes but playing at being a nun for a bit

Actually, the quality seems okay to me although I didn't see you. If you know what the time code is at spot, it would help.

A question, is she the only one in that community who wears the full toque? The others all seem to be wearing a more modified veil. Just curious.

And do you know who was the nun who came up for Communion, she wasn't Carmelite - maybe Benedictine?

They had hoped it would be professional quality - it was filmed by the guy who did No Greater Love - but his equipment had to go in an awkward place and kept being knocked. Nevermind, they only wanted it for the website.

There are about 5 who still wear the toque. As a rule, all new sisters will have the new veil (I don't really like the term modified - the toque is a modification too and very different to what St Teresa wore ;) ) but Sr Desiree has spent most of her adult life in and out of communities and is used to the toque so was allowed to have it.

The sister you saw was, I believe, a Poor Clare. There were 2 Poor Clare sisters there as Sr had been in their community prior to entering NH, and it was her superiors there who originally contacted NH as sister felt she wanted to be a Carmelite. They brought her to visit and then once she had seen out her teporary vows she entered NH. Although not shown, there were quite a lot of various sisters there - Missionaries of Charity, Little Sister of Jesus, etc - its a busy area for sisters! For interest, the presider is a Benedictine abbott and the 3 servers are his novices, 2 of whom are making their solemn professions next year.

Yes, it would have been me around the 10min ish mark. Sr Luke who edited the vid cut out most of the kiss of peace, which I am told included a 'stunnung' shot of me finally losing my composure and bursting into tears!!! :cry3:

Wonderful video. Am I the only one who thought one of the hymns had a similar tune to 'Will you go Lassie, go' or am I just crazy? Probably just crazy. I really want a crafty nun doll with a crown of flowers

Nope youre right, its a traditional Scottish melody. I love it actually - its the words of the Magnificat.

razzle dazzle! I thought how appropriate, and lovely. I also loved that one of the nuns (I assume Sr. Mary of Joseph) held her hand and walked over with her for the prostration

Yes, that walk would have felt a mile alone I imagine!!

Something I don't think I have mentioned is that, as it had been a long time since their last solemn profession, and they had taken longer to make some of the changes anyway, this was the first time the profession had taken place on the sanctuary. There is actually only just space for the prostration, and when (God willing) it is my turn, my feet will hang off the end!!! :hehe2:
