God reward you for posting this article! :)

I haven't seen this one yet; it's the most detailed one so far. Do you know if that picture on the side is where they are now? I would guess so, but I was just wondering if that's what they're using as their Chapel for the time being? Certainly their living situation isn't ideal for the way of life, but they have Our Lord and they belong completely to Him; what else could you desire? That is the real joy and they must be very content and at peace. I know I would be.

I'm not sure, but that could be some kind of a wooden grille BEHIND the altar - maybe it is some kind of a 2 sided altar with the people's section on the other side (so that it is taken from the Nuns' choir?) I know that they would ultimately put up metal grilles, but this might be a temporary solution, especially if they are doing renovations... or it might even be a sliding screen with grillework behind it (i.e., closed).....? It will be interesting to hear from anyone who might be attending the Dedication....

Well considering the way the altar is set up and that these sisters are dedicated to the EF Mass, the priest would say Mass right at the altar, ad orientem (back to the sister.) This is probably one of the things they are working on.

Traditionalist nuns greeted by Bishop of Oakland in Livermore

Something curious took place this weekend. On Friday, July 27th it was announced that Oakland Bishop Salvatore Cordileone has been appointed the next Archbishop of San Francisco. There was a lot of interest in this on the internet. In a number of "traditionalist" websites, the appointment story was accompanied by an article saying one of Bishop Cordileone's last actions as Oakland bishop was to invite a very traditionalist group of discalced Carmelite nuns from Nebraska to the diocese where they would take up residence near Moraga. As the day wore on, these stories began to disappear from the internet and one of the SSPX sites commented that "two priests requested that the story be withdrawn". No reason for trying to take back a story which had already spread on the internet was given. Today, I searched around the web and found the following picture on a Canadian traditionalist site http://kwtraditionalcatholic.blogspot.com in Ontario which evidently has a lot of interest in what goes on in Livermore.

The nuns were greeted by Bishop Cordileone at the Livermore airport July 24th after flying in from Nebraska.

Here's a beautiful family that attended the dedication Friday - http://joyfilledfamily.blogspot.com/ :) (childrens' names I am sure are nicknames since it's a public, etc.)

LG I remember seeing that post and then the kind of controversy, or rather dilemma (since it had already been posted for some time/had spread) about removing it ..eeee I am happy they did try to remain hidden anyway.. of course it's great seeing them! And now I've seen that picture posted in several places (like that blog)

Yep. Also, they weren't enclosed yet at that point.[/background]

QUESTION: (sorry for the caps!) It looks like the nuns were on a private jet? I was just wondering whether this was typical, due to their enclosure, or whether a Church official (priest/bishop/Monsignor) offered it to them, or whether a random benefactor paid for it. I am not trying to accuse the nuns of 'flying in style' or being materialistic or anything like that, really just the opposite, as I know they never would have put themselves on a jet. :) Like, I said, I am curious if this was done for the sake of remaining hidden.

They are beautiful nuns!

I did a map search and found that I am only a 20 minute drive from this new Carmelite Monastery! However, in the Catholic Voice newspaper, they only gave a p.o. box number for donations; the address of the monastery was not revealed. I did find it on that blog posted above, so I checked it out. Since they are trying to get their place in order, I won't visit for a while. There was no public announcement of their enclosure Mass, so I think they are not really ready for visitors yet. I must confess, I am anxious to see this new monastery.

Wonderful!

I'm looking forward to reading about the Dedication Mass; I'll have to keep looking to see when they'll post about it. :)

Considering the Nuns came from Valparaiso (Nebraska airports aren't very big/important) it was probably a smaller, connecting flight they used to get to California. I don't believe it was a private jet :)

That makes sense-may God reward you! Are you a local, or are you just not totally clueless about geography like I am? I had no clue that Nebraska was kind of a 'no man's land.'

 • 1 year later...

Yes, they both pray all of the Hours only in Latin. :) The only Office books they use are of the Ancient Carmelite Rite which the Carmelite Monks reprinted for them as they also use these books. I believe they are the only Carmels in the world that still use them. They also have the Martryology for Prime everyday. I don't know how Matins works with other Orders, maybe the same as theirs, but they have 9 Psalms with 3 readings, except on 1st and 2nd Class Feast days when there are still 9 Psalms but also 9 readings; 3 in-between each 3 Psalms. And of course the Te Deum. On First Class Feasts Lauds is sung, and sometimes the Invitatory for Matins (Pslam 94; Venite Exsultemus) with its Antiphon is sung also, sometimes also the Te Deum. There is much more about the traditions they use; but I don't know if I could explain it all well enough....

I know this post is old, but if you are still around, VeniJesuAmorMi, would you describe more about their office and unique traditions?
