Craft Nun Shop

We have just added some more items to the Crafty nun shop. We listened to our shoppers suggestions and have now created a sticker to be attached to each item. Sr Desiree has produced mobile phone covers, more beautiful quilling cards from Mother M. St Joseph and Sr Faith’s very popular original socks! Thank you for your continued support.

With great joy we welcomed Sr Paulette on 15 August to begin her novitiate. Please keep her in your prayers, and indeed all our sisters in formation. We are very blessed with such a lovely group.

On Monday the Council of the Association of British Carmels are having their meeting at our Monastery so we have been very very busy cleaning and whipping the garden into shape. In fact if you stood still for any length of time you were in danger of being spray polished or carried along with grass cuttings! It is always a very happy time when visiting Carmelites come to stay. Hopefully the weather will remain dry and pleasant.

If you click the second picture it shows a slightly bigger version and I'm pretty sure that's Sr. Faith in the corner.

I am so happy to hear that Sr. Faith's community is continually receiving new vocations! Praised be Jesus Christ! :)

This is great! Thank you for posting Chiara Francesco! Sr Faith does look very happy.

Edit: This may belong in a different thread, but I was wondering why this Carmel has differing veils/tocques? Obviously, the Carmel has let the sisters choose which they would like to wear, but it seems like that might make the Carmel ripe for criticism between Sisters. I am just wondering why there is not one uniform veil for the Sisters. Please don't take this as a judgement on the Carmel. Obviously they are an outstanding group, with all these postulants they have!

Emma,
I have the movie "No Greater Love" which is a documentary on this particular Carmelite monastery. In some of the edited interview clips one of the sisters stated that some of the sisters did not take to the "reforms" and changes very well and wanted to keep the full habit and it seems the prioress let them do that. It struck me as "un-uniform" as well which would lend itself to disunity. But that may just be outward appearances. I don't know these sisters personally. I could be totally wrong. Appearances are deceiving. :)

Also, I believe Faithcecilia said in her thread that one or two of the sisters had to have their veil altered because of hearing difficulties.

Thank you for your answers to my question! I have heard that about hearing from the171 concerning the Laffy Carmel. ACS67, I love NGL! It was so beautiful, but like you, I definitely paused the screen once or twice to say, "Aha! I thought I saw a sister wearing the tocque." It left me a little confused, hence my question. The difference in veils intrigued me only because I have heard that in the cloister the smallest things are emphasized because of the nuns' physical proximity. In other words, these nuns must be Saints! I don't know if I could handle such a situation very gracefully. Of course, many communities have difference in habit today, but these are almost always active.

I am done highjacking CF!

It's lovely to see the community growing.
Sr Faith looks very happy but it looks are though her left arm is in a sling and I wonder whether she has had an accident.

I noticed that too, I wasn't sure because my eyesight is terrible. I shall have to ask her about it in my next letter.

Faith's socks knock my socks off! I'm accomplished at a lot of handcrafts but socks, for some reason, are beyond me!

Faith was polishing the floor and a splinter tore into her hand. It must have been one heck of a splinter, because she had to go to Accident and Emergency and a few days later they brought her into hospital for surgery. I posted about it in the prayer room a week or so back. I presume that's why she's got the sling.

Antigonos, I know! She was my 'real life' friend before she entered and while I knew that she liked sewing, I had no idea that she could actually make things fit to wear, right from scratch. The things you learn about your friends when they go cloistered...
