franciscanheart Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Has the Church spoken on the topic of single-parent adoption? Obviously I am aware of the ideal situation (a married man and woman), but I am curious about the Church's inclination on single-parents. Thanks in advance.
cappie Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Adoption is a loving act of charity towards a child who needs a home. The Church recognizes that a two-parent home is certainly ideal. But the Church does not have any teaching specifically against a single person adopting. So I think single people should adopt since the child deserves love. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear ... " 1 John 4:18~
CatherineM Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I knew a priest in Oklahoma who adopted a child in his parish who became orphaned. That was 30+ years ago. Today they probably wouldn't allow that because of appearances.
