I am sure this hilarious newsletter from EmmaBerry's Poor Clares must have been posted here before. But in case it hasn't, here it is - in all it's brilliance. :)

Thanks for posting that ad-- it's perfect! For anyone who loves it, I recommend the book "A Right to be Merry" by Mother Mary Francis (I think she's also the one who originally wrote that ad, though it's been updated since her time.) The book is a wonderful explanation of the cloistered religious vocation. I used to have a hard time understanding why God would want nuns to be cloistered instead of out teaching or nursing or something, but that book really helped me to understand and feel the joy of that kind of life for those who are called to it. Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Right-Merry-Mother-Mary-Francis/dp/0898708249/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1347828571&sr=1-1&keywords=a+right+to+be+merry

I think I posted it in some hidden cavern of VS, so thank you for bringing it to the light of day NovemberFourth!

I gave this to the people who wrote me recommendation letters, or any family who were having a hard time understanding how Poor Clares can be joyful with all their penances. It expresses the Roswell nuns' temperament as a group perfectly. Sweet, witty, joyful, but still very mindful of their penances and the purposes of their life. In fact, their awareness of their penances is actually what makes them so joyful! They are never happier than when speaking of their midnight rising or some aspect of Lady Poverty.

Chiara Francesco

Many of the other PCC communities used this in their literature they'd send out to inquirers - at least I got them from a few BEFORE most communities, if not all, got websites! But I think only Roswell has it up but I'm not sure. It is a great thing to give discerners - it's light-hearted but also gives you the real scoop nicely! All PCC communities should have it on their site. I love it!
