DiscerningCatholic Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 (edited) Okay, so I wrote to the SSEW (Sister Servants of the Eternal Word) about three weeks ago. They replied once with a generic email - how old are you, how long have you been discerning, how did you come to discern, etc. - to which I responded. That was 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard back since. Has anyone else written to them and waited a while for a response? Or did they just think I was too weird...? A cloistered nun told me once that you'd never believe it, but the cloister is the busiest place she's ever been!

[/quote] Less than 24 hours. As I said, it was generic; it could have just been automatically sent.

mantellata Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Many Sisters have regulations regarding email (and others just opt for the same out of self discipline) to only check email once a day. Others check it only once a week. I wouldn't assume it's just been lost.

I emailed the vocations director and she responded in less than 24 hours, saying that she would be happy to answer any questions and help me in anyway that she could. I replied with some questions. This was about two weeks ago and I have yet to hear back. However, I am sure that she is busy and will get back to me as soon as she can.

It is because of their access to email. As far as the SSEW ... give them a call. I think that's how I talked to them and set up a visit (way back ago).
TheresaThoma Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 When I was first contacting communities I would get anxious after just a couple of days. A wise Jesuit friend told me that Sisters run on "convent time" and that is typically much slower than the outside world, at least with respect to communication and such. It helped me to calm down quite a bit. 3 weeks does seem a bit long though. I would say give it a few more days then either email them again or call them. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. Eventually you will figure out what is the typical time period for a certain community to respond. (At one point I knew within a day or two of when a certain community would get back to me!).

[/quote] I wrote them several times and always got a response within a week. Sr. Louise Marie is very helpful.
MeteorShower Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I just got a reply and I was hitting myself when I saw the VD's apologies for her belated reply as she was on retreat this past week... ...the same thing happened with another community that I wrote to last year. :3 I'm so impatient Oh well. I guess my point was that maybe that could be a possibility?

[/quote] Which order was this? I don't think the SSEW have any retreats this time of year; maybe I misread the schedule. I really just think I'm weird.
FutureCarmeliteClaire Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 My NM takes like 2 weeks just to reply to an email sometimes. Haha! But it's true, convent time is a lot different than here.
