6...............If Only the Bridegroom Would Come

_____________________________________________

1

By this bright hope
Which came to them from above
Their wearying labors
Were lightened; /
But the drawn out waiting
And their growing desire
To rejoice with their Bridegroom
Wore on them continually.

....................John of the Cross, Romances, 5:1-2

2

So, with prayers
And sighs and suffering,
With tears and moanings /
They asked night and day
That now He would determine
To grant them His companyl

....................John of the Cross, Romances, 5:3-4a

3

Some said:  If only
This joy would come in my time! /
Others:  Come, Lord
Send Him Whom You will send!

....................John of the Cross, Romances, 5:4b-5a

4

And others:  Oh, if only these heavens
Would break, and with my own eyes
I could see Him descending; /
Then I would stop my crying out,

....................John of the Cross, Romances, 5b-6a

5

Let justice descend, O heavens, /
like dew from above, like gentle rain

...................Isaiah 45:8a

6

Let the skies drop it down. /

Let the earth open and salvation bud forth;

let jusice also spring up!

...................Isaiah 45:8a

7

O clouds, rain down from your height, /

Earth needs you.

...................John of the Cross, Romances, 5:6b

8

And let the earth open
That has borne us thorns, /
Let it bring forth that flower
That would be its flowering.

...................John of the Cross, Romances, 5:7

9

Others said:  what gladness

For him who is living then, /

Who will be able to see God

With his own eyes.

...................John of the Cross, Romances, 5:8

10

And touch Him with his hand

and walk with Him /

And enjoy the mysteries

Which He will then ordain.

...................John of the Cross, Romances, 5:9

A Virtue to develop for today: Trust in God's Providence

Both St. Juan Diego and our Lady trusted radically in God's providential care
May our lady show us the way to Jesus, teaching us trusting surrender to the Father's pleasure:
"Be it done to me according to Your Will."

A practical way to work on these virtues….

* Entrust something in your life to the care of our Lady
* Repeat her prayer several times today:  "Be it done to me according to Your Will."
