7...............Their fervor swelled and grew

_____________________________________________

1

In these and other prayers
A long time had passed; /
But in the later years
Their fervor swelled and grew.

....................John of the Cross, Romances, 6:1

2

"Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel
...He has raised up a horn for our salvation
Within the house of David his servant, /
Even as he promised through the mouth
Of his holy prophets from of old:

....................Luke 1:68a, 69-70

3

"Because of the tender mercy of our God
By which the daybreak
From on high will visit us /
To shine on those who sit in darkness
And dath's shadow,
To guide our feet into the path of peace."

....................Luke 1:78-79

4

When the aged Simeon
Burned with longing, /
And begged God that he
Might see this day,

....................John of the Cross, Romances, 6:2

5

And so the Holy Spirit
Answering the good old man /
Gave him His word

...................John of the Cross, Romances, 6:3a

6

That he would not see death

Until he saw Life /

Descending from the heights,

...................John of the Cross, Romances, 6:3b, 4a

7

Until he took God Himself

Into his own hands /

And holding Him in his arms

Pressed Him to himself.

...................John of the Cross, Romances, 6:4b

8

[And Simeon said] "Now Master,
You may let your servant go in peace, /
According to your word.

...................Luke 2:29

9

"For my eyes have seen you rsalvation, /

Which you prepared in sight of all the peoples,

...................Luke 2:30-31

10

"A light for revelation to the Gentiles, /

And the glory for your people Israel."

...................Luke 2:32

A Virtue to develop for today: FAITH

"Faith is the substance of things unseen."

Every one of us struggles with faith.
It must have been very difficult at times for Mary and Joseph to trust that the things that God promised would happen.
And yet they believed that God would lead and inspire them, and moved forward in response to God's call.

Joseph was a caring and protective father to Jesus, providing an example to all of us of quiet and prayerful faithfulness.

A practical way to work on these virtues….

* Ask Mary and Joseph to teach you how to become more faith-filled and faithful to serving God in little ways today.
* Repeat several times today: "I do believe, Lord; help thou my unbelief."
