PhuturePriest
So as some of you bored enough know, Emily is dating and I'm perfectly fine with that. But I went on her Facebook profile to see what his name was. I saw his picture and he seemed kind of old, so I clicked his name. He is not two years older than her, he is not four years older than her. He is SIX. YEARS. OLDER!!!! What the floopy?!?!?!?! I was okay with this until now. Isn't that illegal anyway? Random tangent: He should be graduating flippin' college right now! Except he hasn't, because he didn't even finish high school!!!! Why on God's green earth is he dating a sixteen year old?! And why is she dating him with all of these major red flags in mind?!?! This is so messed up I have no clue what to say!!! Seriously!!! I would cry if I wasn't so furious!!!! Slappo
Calm down bro... my sister in law is getting married to someone about 6 yrs older than her in 2 months. They started dating when she was 18ish. It's not illegal unless they are engaging in sexual activities...
Basilisa Marie
I'm generally a fan of the "half your age plus seven" rule for dating older people. But the reason for that is to ensure that people have similar levels of maturity and goals for the relationship. If they're both practicing Catholics, larger age gaps aren't that uncommon, because both are on board with discerning marriage as a vocation. She either has some really good reasons to ignore those red flags, or it won't last.

You'd definitely be getting some high-fives. He's dating her because she's young and he's probably a poo-head. This is bad mojo. Do her parents know? Gabriela
FuturePriest: First, you're a Facebook stalker. Second, I don't know how old Emily is, but I support the general principle that an 18-year-old dating a 24-year-old is not the same as a 35-year-old dating a 41-year-old. A lot of maturing happens in the 20s. Major life changes. Figuring out who you are and all that crap. That being said, When I was 18, I was engaged to a 23-year-old. And I was more mature than he was. So... it really depends on the couple, is all I'm saying. Third, who would want to date someone who didn't watch the same cartoons as a kid? Seriously. Hasan: Are you censoring your own posts now? ;-)

theculturewarrior
This would raise red flags for me. A dark sense of humor is one thing, but no offense, teenagers are annoying. Why would a grown man want to be around them if he had a choice not to? Edited December 22, 2012 by theculturewarrior

This is bad mojo. Do her parents know? Everything I know about psychology is telling me she needs to avoid this guy completely. And yes, her parents know. This is shocking to me because they seemed like such sensible people. What kind of world are we living in when Hasan is one of the few people on a thread with common sense? I have a 16 year old daughter, and this would not fly in my house. Thank you! If only Emily was your daughter. I am still holding onto the hope that this is just a joke, but I have a terrible feeling it is not.
