What name(s) would you take? I would love to hear all of them! (Also, I may be looking for inspiration... But I also want to hear your names! :D ) God bless!
Starets Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Sr. Mary Bruno :) just kidding. One thing to keep in mind wiht religious names is that superiors are not likely going to let you have a name that is unusual. So if you want Sr. Mary Quithera it is not likely going to happen.

I have a friend who entered Dallas Carmel where they receive their names upon entrance as a postulant, and they know what the Prioress decided before entrance (I think they might be able to suggest things/at least I know they can share their favorite saints) Anyway, when I asked her if she liked her name, she said she was not worthy of any name! ChristinaTherese Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Just for fun: Sr. Mary Peter (because he was so much of a flake at first and then not at all afterward) Sr. Mary Francis (for St. Francis of Assisi) Sr. Mary Paul (for St. Paul of the Cross) I'd expect that those would change before I actually get a name though. :p And if I get a title: of the Cross (or possibly something else but related to the Crucifixion like the Holy Face, the Sacred Heart, or the Passion)

Of course, they could just not say. I know that the Passionists in Whitesville, KY all take titles, but they hardly ever state them. (They (the Passionists) do, however, say that they all take titles on their website.) TheresaThoma Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 So one of my top favorites is Sr Miriam Edith (after St Edith Stein) A couple of my friends are trying to convince me that Sr Stella Maris would be a good name for me (I love astronomy). I'm kind of warming up to the idea. Another name that has been popping up in my head is Sr Miriam Rose. (It just occured to me that Rosa was St Edith's younger sister, lol) The community I am discerning with has a form of Mary in their name but in everyday use that is dropped so the last two would be Sr Stella and Sr Rose. Hmmm not bad....
whitneyelizabeth Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 my friends came up with a whole list of suggestions when I announced my discernment :proud: some the ones I think about: (though I honestly don't mind what I end up being called, I didn't get to choose my baptismal name but God did and it worked out pretty well :smile4: ) Sr. Francesca (I LOVE St. Francis of Assisi but I really like more feminine names because I'm very glad God made me a woman) Sr. Mary Magdalene (because when she found Jesus after the Resurrection, she wouldn't let Him go)

Sr. Amata Filia, Sr. Leonie Amata, Sr. Amata Marie, Sr. Amata Rose, Sr. Solanus Regina,Sr. Peter John Marie, Sr. Marie Vianney and Sr. Leonie Therese are the current ones. I think for a title I would love to have either "of Christ the High Priest" to reflect my spiritual motherhood for priests or "Of the Holy Wounds" for my devotion all of the wounds but in particular the knee and shoulder wounds. BarbTherese Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) If I were in religious life, I really think I would prefer my name in religion to be chosen by my superior, rather than myself. Chosen by my superior, it would strike me as having something prophetic about it - something that I should investigate and then embrace wholeheartedly. For example, my parents chose "Barbara Mary" as my baptismal first name and I discovered that "Barbara" has several meanings that are very apt for me (for one, it reminded the Greeks of the totally unintelligible chatter of foreigners" :) "Mary" is also apt since I have great devotion to Our Lady and this was passed on to my from my Dad since my earliest years. Dad had great and confident devotion to Our Lady under her title "Perpetual Help". I chose "Therese" as my Confirmation name without knowing anything really about her except that the large painting on my classroom wall of her was the only 'holy image' with a smile and she held a crucifix with roses. I then discovered that I could have a REAL, honest to goodness, picture of a REAL saint (not one who existed hundreds and hundreds of years in the past). Later in my life Therese's theology and Little Way really spoke to me meaningfully. Carmel was to come to mean much to me from my mid teens and a relationship with the nuns I have maintained to this my 67th year. In my mid teens they were a healthy flourishing community in a beautiful monastery - nowadays three older nuns only remain living in a suburban house. Edited January 31, 2013 by BarbaraTherese

(on my own... unfortunately since I'm a revert I have to wait a while until I can officially discern with them....) I just LOVE the SOL and everything they stand for. Once I "officially" became pro-life I vowed to myself and to God that if I could live my life for one purpose it would be (#1, to serve Him, and secondly,) to save babies and end abortion once and for all. After I started discerning, I found the SOL and they struck me from the beginning! I just LOVE their fourth vow, since it is the vow I have already made, and their apostolate is amazing!! :) Are YOU a SOL girl too? :D GB+
