AnneLine Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 Monday of the 5th Week of Lent Well.... THIS was an interesting weekend. My computer went dead on Saturday afternoon. It's a danged good thing I took FLYLady's advice and PRINTED MY CONTROL JOURNAL a few days back.... It also made me much more grateful for the wonderful people in my life who are helping me to salvage what can be salvaged from my fried machine, and reminding me to take good care of myself over the weekend. I was contacted by one of the people doing this challenge over the weekend. She is proud to report she has decluttered 25 BOXES of stuff since the start of Lent... and has been working through the steps and setting up routines. She's still decluttering 15 minutes at a time and she is astonished that this is working... She is aiming for the 40 boxes in 40 days out of her home. She's also started a similar project on a pile of old documents in her office. Wow. We both agreed -- the HARDEST thing about the FLYLady challenge is the discipline of doing all the little stuff every day... and stopping when the 15 minutes of decluttering is up. It reminds us to keep balance in our lives... but it is NOT an easy thing.... For myself.... kitchen, kitchen eating area, bedrooms and dining room are decluttered and are more-or-less clean every day. Most of the backed-up ironing is done, and the laundry is being done one load at a time as needed...a light or dark load most days.... one load of sheets/towels a week... and an ironing day or two each week (Mr. AnneLine has uniforms that need to be ironed... grrrrr!). But no more backed up piles of stuff to be washed or ready to wash. It's just astonishing.... The coming week's focus: The Living Room. Major repository of piles of clutter. Gulp. I can do this... for the Love of God, I can do this..... Maybe I'll find Lazarus in there.... who knows?! FLYLady's 23nd Day Today we will add a 'get home from school' or 'get home from work' routine to the mix. It's your Afternoon Routine! Just put the spot in there for now.... we'll add some things to it soon. (ACTUALLY there is something that is already in there.... do you know what it is? HINT: "How dry I am....!" ;) ) Read this interesting musing from FLYLady on the role of routines in our lives: http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2011/11/13/are-you-ready/ Be sure to keep on with doing your laundry daily. It will take a few days to get this one established... but you'll be glad once it is! KEEP GOING ON YOUR DAILY ROUTINES! MORNING ROUTINE: Make Bed Dress to shoes Check your Control Journal Go to Fly Lady group and read messages Check your calendar Check your control journal Recognize negative voices and change them Put out hot spot for 2 mins 5 minute Room rescue (any room). Set Timer & Go! Wash ONE load of laundrySpend 15 minutes Decluttering each day. AnneLine Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) Tuesday of the 5th Week of Lent Nothing too exciting going on over here in AnneLine Land... except that the house is increasingly taking care of itself. Hope you are having the same experience. On Monday I spent my 15 minutes in the living room, and also took the sheets off the beds and re-made our bed. Guest bed is scheduled to get its bed remaking today (Tuesday). Getting stuff done 15 minutes at a time. FLYLady's 24th Day Today we add 'swish & swipe' to the morning routine. This is the daily maintenance routine for the bathroom. 1) Swish the toilet bowl with a toilet brush. Drop in a little shampoo into the bowl before you do this. Flush! 2) Spray a bit of window cleaner on the rim and toilet seat, and on the counter and sink. Spray some on the mirrors if they have 'flossing home runs' or other stuff on the glass. 3) Quickly wipe off the rim & toilet seat with one papertowel, and toss it away; and then wipe off the mirrors, sink and counter with the other. Do the swish & swipe fast... whatever you miss today you'll get tomorrow. Whole thing should take 2 minutes. Your bathroom will ALWAYS be company ready. Think about it: the way things are going with Pope Francis, you could get a call that he is coming to use your restroom in about 15 minutes. Wouldn't you like to always be ready? ;) KEEP GOING ON YOUR DAILY ROUTINES! MORNING ROUTINE: Make Bed Dress to shoes Swish & Swipe! AnneLine Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 Wednesday of the 5th Week of Lent Well I had some extra time on Tuesday, so I got a bunch of stuff cleared out of my bedroom drawers... four drawers in about 1 hour. Literally just took the stuff out one drawer at a time, either put it back in the drawer, gave it away or threw it away. Four drawers done in about 1 hour. Two boxes for giving away... a big bag of trash (just stuff I never wore that wasn't good enough to give to someone else... old stretched out stuff... we all have it, get honest....) Now there is ROOM to put stuff away in there. SO EXCITING! Did I mention that I did the same thing with my REFRIGERATOR on Saturday? Cleaned the entire fridge, wiped the shelves and tossed stuff and straightened stuff in less than an hour. I am still in shock when I look in there.... and we've put the grocieries in there since then, so you KNOW how much room I was able to make.... Yowie! More stuff to put away/give away/throw away in the living room tomorrow..... oh my. Still hunting Lazarus... I know there is a lot of big stones to roll back in there... FLYLady's 25th Day Today read FLYLady's personal testimonial on how she started developing her routines one step at a time. http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/why-fly/personal-testimonial/ It took FLYLady several months to do this; no one expects you to have this all done in one month, Working the routines will get you there by baby steps. We are NOT looking for 'perfectionism' but to be doing what you are doing in a way that lovingly honors God, yourself and your family & friends. KEEP GOING ON YOUR DAILY ROUTINES! MORNING ROUTINE: Make Bed Dress to shoes Swish & Swipe Check your Control Journal Go to Fly Lady group and read messages Check your calendar Check your control journal Recognize negative voices and change them Put out hot spot for 2 mins 5 minute Room rescue (any room). AnneLine Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) Thursday of the 5th Week of Lent We're only one week until Holy Thursday! That seems UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! Seems like just yesterday we started on Ash Wednesday! I'm curious to get a sense of whether this has been helpful for people. I know this thread has had nearly 2500 views, so SOMEBODY is watching it! I'm also wondering if there is any interest in a post-Easter continuation thread.... perhaps working through setting up the weekly Fly zones? I'm planning to do the work, so if there is interest I can continue to post... but I may not do it if I don't think people find it helpful. Feel free to let me know if it has been helpful, and what would be helpful for me to discuss if I do decide to continue doing this between Easter and Pentecost. Thanks for any pheedback you care to share..... and I continue to pray for all of you, and hope you do likewise! FLYLady's 26th Day Add this to your inspirational page: "You are not behind! AnneLine Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 bump? Anybody have any thoughts? Anybody still reading this?
arfink Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Well I have some feedback. I fell off the wagon weeks ago, and haven't been able to get back on, or back up to the level you're writing about here. But I'm keeping tabs on this because at some point this is gonna be useful for me, so I'm gonna keep following along here and see what I can implement.
AnneLine Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 OK. That's fair enough. FlyLady would say just pick up where you are and start in with today's stuff... but if you're lost, go back to where you fell off and come on down! I'ts taken me this long to more-or-less get it riding well with more-or-less straight lines... and I fall off enough that my sides and backside are a lovely Lenten purple! But it's starting to happen.... Come on ARFink, you (and everybody else!) can do it!
AnneLine Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) (Sorry this is being posted a bit late... had some, uh, unexpected things to deal with.... pray for us!) Friday of the 5th Week of Lent Thursday was.... interesting. We live in a somewhat wooded area and sometimes we get.... mice. Euck. Realized we had a visitor that needed to get trapped and removed. That also meant we had to do a clean-up of all the 'thank you notes' he'd left behind. Literally. And I SO didn't want to deal with it.... literally or figuratively.... Found myself thinking that this is a good time of Lent to have this happen... because it makes me realize my own soul has parallels to my FLYLady journey. I've been decluttering spiritually -- letting go of all the baggage that has been tying me down, freeing me to FLY. I've started taking responsibility for living my life more intentionally.... making choices for God and against my own sensuality and lazyness. And now I am having to stare at my own internal vermin... the bad things that are being exposed.... that I don't want to admit are living in my heart and soul. And making the hard choices to evict the ones that need evicting... and nurturing more of the ones that lead me and others to God. And it is good. BUT it is hard! But do-able if I do it one step at a time.... (Side note -- thank you to all those of you who have encouraged me on this journey and continue to do so... it means a lot.) FORTUNATELY because of the work I've been doing this Lent, my kitchen was relatively clean and a major disinfect wasn't that big a deal. THAT is a change! Once again I am aware of how much working the routines have blessed me and my family. It also makes me that much more grateful for all the stuff I have decluttered and cleared over the last few weeks... and another couple of boxes of stuff got decluttered as I went. YES! Has led me to decide that I am going to spend some time over next few days in a determined self-inventory and preparation for confession. Yes, I've gotten into a regular routine of doing confessions... but there is a time and place for a deeper look and a more rigorous cleaning. I feel really called to take the lessons I've been learning from FLYLady and apply them to my spiritual life. I want to look at the good and the bad... and see where God has been at work. And what God wants next. I'm not going to listen to the voices that tell me God doesn't care what happens in my home... that I don't have enough time... that other things are more important. I am going to realize that serving God is really done 15 minutes at a time, doing all the little things with great love.... and that God is using my own journey to help others. PRAY FOR ME AND ALL THOSE USING THIS THREAD AS I PRAY FOR YOU!!! FLYLady's 27th Day Think about what's for dinner BEFORE dinner --- either in the morning or the night before. Add 'what's for dinner' to your routines -- you can add it to before bed tonight, or to the morning routine. I tend to put it both places... because I look at what is in the refrigerator as I put dinner away and clean the kitchen... and then I am ready to go in the morning putting that plan into action! AnneLine Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Monday of Holy Week Almost done in the Living Room!!!! This is getting exciting!!! I am ON TARGET for having a clean house by Holy Thursday!!!! The living room and basement are what is left -- the final frontier!!!! Rather than get totally burned out before Easter, I'm working a realistic plan. I have a lot of papers to sort that are all in the living room right now. There is NO WAY I will be able to get these sorted by Easter. Nor do I intend to do so! I have broken the stuff into five basic categories. I am bagging and boxing the stuff by category and storing them in the basement. I am calendaring a week to work on each category between Easter and Pentecost. More details about this soon. It's obvious I won't be able to fit all the books I own into the bookcases I have at present (which is why they are piled all over the house!). I'm planning a bookcase cull in the next few weeks as well. Some will be given to good homes.... and I might need another bookcase. We will see!!! I think this will work. One step at a time. PRAY FOR ME AND ALL THOSE USING THIS THREAD AS I PRAY FOR YOU!!! FLYLady's 28th Day As part of your routines, remind yourself to at good food, drink water and get enough rest. Add 'Eat Breakfast and drink your water!' and 'Eat Dinner and drink your water' to your morning and evening routines. Add 'Have a healthy snack and drink some water!' to your afternoon routine. AnneLine Posted March 26, 2013 Author Posted March 26, 2013 Tuesday of Holy Week Monday was interesting. Got almost all of the Living Room clutter triaged and ready to work on over the next few weeks. So far so good! BUT... I also got a surprise that nearly derailed me! Found out over the weekend that because of some maintenance to our building, I would need to put all the 'outside stuff (planters, flower boxes, etc.) into our garage for about a week. By Tuesday!!! And that garage already was FULL of things.... and I really didn't know how I would put the garden things into it! My first thought was... NO, not this, not after I have worked SO HARD to be done this week! GRRR! Then I realized.... I needed to work the problem. Maybe I could use this as a way of pre-sorting the garage as well as putting the garden things in there. It took some time -- a few hours in fact -- but now I have the garden stuff in one part of the garage and the rest of the stuff assembled for my after-Easter project! What felt like a de-rail became a real asset -- it just took asking the Holy Spirit what to do first, second and third! I would never have thought of doing this if I hadn't had all the space cleared in the living room and kitchen -that gave me the space and perspective I needed to see what to do. And... taking the time to eat well really did help keep me energized... because there was a LOT of stuff to move! ~~~ + ~~~ I am SO READY to take advantage of today's step!!! I'm planning a day of rest and self care on Wednesday. It seems to be a great way to prepare myself to really be present for the Triduum on Thursday through Sunday! I am also making sure that any supplies I need for Easter will get into the house on Tuesday and Wednesday, too!!!! PRAY FOR ME AND ALL THOSE USING THIS THREAD AS I PRAY FOR YOU!!! FLYLady's 29th Day You have worked very hard this Lent. It takes time to set up routines that work; it includes trial and error, and advancing step by step. ANYTHING you do is better than it used to be! Part of your routines needs to be personal care and maintenance. God has entrusted YOU with your own body, and you need to take time to really honor and appreciate that gift! Today read FLYLady's Taking Care of You page. http://www.flylady.net/d/taking-care-of-you/ Choose one of the Pamper Missions -- there are dozens to choose from! Put it on your calendar, and make it happen! You can do it now... or you can make it part of your Easter Week! It is very important to remember to schedule some "YOU" time on a regular basis!!! AnneLine Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) ALMOST the entry for Wednesday of Holy Week..... getting ready to land! No, I haven't forgotten to post the FLY LADY stuff today. I just have been SUPER busy with the last bit of stuff and taking a little time for me. And... I have been praying over this video. It is eight weeks of work on a piece of wooden sculpture... compressed into 8 minutes. And I have been thinking... give or take a week, we've put in about 8 weeks of work over the 40 days of Lent If this is eight weeks compressed into 8 minutes, then this is a graphic of what Lent looks like.... or 8x5 days of FLYLady work. THIS is what the little discouraging evil spirits don't want us to see... what God is making out of our lumps of wood. THIS is how GOD sees the things we do for love of Him during Lent. Wow. Just... wow.... Edited March 27, 2013 by AnneLine
AnneLine Posted March 28, 2013 Author Posted March 28, 2013 Still not quite ready to post.... Last of the stuff still going on.... Spent the Evening at a parish function, and just home now... Going to be praying Evening Prayer with a friend and then finish up the last of today in a little while. Will post before bed, I promise. And praying in a special way for all of you. Would LOVE to hear from people over the next few days......on what has or has not been working for them on the FLYLady challenge... or how your Lent has gone in general.....
AnneLine Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 Had hoped to get last day up before now, but Phorum Issues made it impossible to do. Now need to forcus on my God and my Family for a little while.... Last bit of FLYThread for Lent will be coming soon....
AnneLine Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 Wednesday of Holy Week Holy Saturday... and EASTER!!!! Well....end of Holy Week crept up on us, didn't it! I'd PLANNED (thought, aimed for, you know....) this to be posted on Wednesday, celebrating the end of the 30 days of FLYLady and ushering in the Triduum. God had other ideas. (Funny how that happens!) I actually am very happy it ended up this way. This is the first year that I have a clean home, don't feel rushed or overwealmed, and managed to really spend time with Jesus in his last days and hours.... all at the same time. And I felt very connected to all of you ... even those who may have stopped reading this thread weeks ago. You are still part of my Beloved, and you are still part of what is in my heart. Just finished a nice late lunch of the left-overes of the Holy Thursday night dinner. Sent Mr. AnneLine off to work with a good lunch and a nice late breakfast (he'll be working till 7Am on Easter!!!!) and I will be getting in a short nap before getting ready to walk down the hill to the Easter Vigil. Always feels like I am joining the women on the way to the tomb, so somehow, it just feels appropriate to be walking at the end of what had to have been a VERY grim Saturday, enlightened only by the faith coming from the heart of the Mother of God, who knew... at her deepest level... that her Son would Rise. It is she who encourages us, and who inspires us in doing our simple, every-day tasks with great love. She's the patron of this thread, and hopefully our model in all things. In a day or so I will be starting a different thread, the 40 days of Easter... heading off to Pentecost!....continuing to implement the work of this thread. I hope you will be joining me! See you on the other side of the tomb! FLYLady's 30th Day Don't get bogged down by trying to figure it all out. As your clutter goes away, you will have time to do zone cleaning, weekly home blessing hour and some of the fun things on the FLYLady's website. You just need to keep on flying at this point and it will all fall into place. And we'll be starting it again in a few days in a different thread! Watch for it! FLYLady says-- and I agree with her: "I am so proud of you!!!!!" MORNING ROUTINE: Make Bed Dress to shoes Swish & Swipe Eat Breakfast and drink your water!
