inno Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 opinions? here is a link to the article. http://www.cathnews.com/news/309/140.php
Luthien Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 ....I dont think I trust the source.... Just because I dont know enough about the magazine to really put too much thought into it.
Mrs. Bro. Adam Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Looks kinda shakey. Considering the Pope is working towards uniting all Christians, to ban priests from speaking/preaching with other Christian reverends, makes me think that there's gotta be more to it.
musturde Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Well to anyone offended by this heres a future to be post. We are not sure of this yet and it hasnt been officially done. There is a possibility that they'll change their minds. Just pray on it. Btw there must be a good reason for it. Liturgical dancing is being taken away? You mean the kind they do in Indian Catholic Masses? That's taking tradition away. That wouldnt be cool.
Luthien Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 I never agreed with girl alter servers, just because alter servers are like, a step into a priestly vocation.
Thy Geekdom Come Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 I've heard about the possible ban on altar girls, but none of this other stuff.
ilovechrist Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 i doubt this is true. we have 2 altar girls, and Father A goes to the Vatican all the time, so he would know if there were any changes. he has asked that we no longer have liturgical dancing, but i know that the indians and africans have it ALL the time! very odd... keep looking into this.
Fides_et_Ratio Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 the news article is old, and talks about things being foreshadowed in "Ecclesia de Eucharistia".. which means it is probably referring to the document that was just released "Redemptionis Sacramentum"... and that document doesn't say anything about altar girls. There were TONS of rumors going around about what was going to be included in that document, in hopes that people would find a turn towards more traditional ideals.
cmotherofpirl Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 This is referrring to the document released last month. They can't even get old news correct!
azaelia Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Yeah, this is a tad sketchy. I'm pretty sure I heard that there was "liturgical dancing" during WYD. Am I wrong?
Fides_et_Ratio Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 No, you're not wrong, there was liturgical dancing at WYD... However, liturgical dancing is condemned in "Redemptionis Sacramentum"..
azaelia Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Well, it depends on when they do it. During the Mass it's not kosher, but I don't see anything wrong with it before or after.
Thomas Michael Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 I thought RS said that although altar girls are generally permitted, the bishops have the right to disallow them in their diocese.
Aloysius Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 the Vatican specifically said it is altogether laudable to maintain the noble tradition by which boys or youths serve the altar in the manner of the acolytes, and that a great number of priestly vocations have come from that over the years, BUT girls or women MAY be allowed at the DISCRESION of the Diocesan Bishop. Altar Girls is given as an option to the Bishop, the Bishop has never needed to allow it. I think African and Indian "liturgical dancing" is considered on a different level than the kinda stuff we do in America with the streamers and the fluffiness... i think they have an allowance for cultural deviation on liturgical dancing for Africans/Indians. And of course b4 after mass... alrighty go for it, but not during mass. Pax Amorque Christi

Era Might Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 (edited) This thread is almost two years old. It's an excellent illustration of why ecclesiastical rumors are useless. Edited November 29, 2005 by Era Might

The article claimed that the Vatican was going to issue a prohibition of female altar servers and Liturgical dancing. Two years later, and no such document was ever released. We're in a whole new Papacy to boot. : Regarding Liturgical dance, I don't think RS addressed it, although the US Bishops have in the past.
