It would have been a dogma by now if it were not for VII.  Believe it because the Church believes it.  The official dogma may occur when there are lot fewer people around.

It is acceptable to believe...and you're in pretty good company if you do.  You will find that many popes and saints have also believed this

It's not only acceptable, my understanding is that it's doctrine.

Through Mary came Jesus, Who is our salvation and Whose incarnation has been the fount of all graces from Adam onwards.  Even if one were not to account for Mary's role in the Passion and at Pentecost, her role from Annunciation to Nativity alone is enough to merit her the title.
