can anyone tell me what is going on in Dallas that has to do with the Catholic Church?

I've heard some rumors, but I want to hear from you guys, what if anything is going on in Dallas in the past week...possibly today.

There's something on the Open Mic thread that hints that more Bishops have failed to comply with the requirements of the Vatican and USCCB for disclosure and dealing with the sex abuse scandal. I'm beginning to hope we lose some Bishops over this. My Diocese only had to change a few minor items to comply because it already had in place stringent rules and standards. For us, it's been a relatively minor issue and I don't understand the logic of Diocese covering this stuff up.

I was reading the thread about the Triumph of the Church that pointed out this whole scandal is a symptom of the liberalizatin of the Church and people wanting to try new things and attitudes with 'loving the sinner but condemning the sin' and the idea that it's a good thing this is blowing up because the Bishops drifted too far from condemning the sin.

I'm presently involved with the Diocese of Dallas regarding a different matter (a phatmass event), but have not heard anything about anything else... What are the rumors and where did you hear them?

This is horrid. I used to donate to the Salesian Missions.

Again, it's a matter of Clergy defying the greater Church rules and directions.

The Orders and Bishops need to follow the Church panels and directives to remove the priests as ordered instead of thwarting the Church and the civil law.

May God have mercy on us! I had heard that the report was coming, but had no idea...It is so hard to know how to respond to this. I think we need to begin doing reparation on behalf of our leaders and beg for Mercy and Grace.

I am the first to remember such things, but read the story. Copies of Church disciplianry hearings, court convictions, etc. Its not pretty. I know the press is often the enemy of the church, but sometimes God uses it to purify us as well.

Maybe this isnt the time or thread to bring this up, but HBO plans on releasing on June 28th, an 'American Undercover' series on Celebacy and the Catholic Church. Has anyone heard about this?

I for one am very interested. I know celebacy is a choice. In the sense that if one chooses to become a priest then one also chooses celebacy. There are, of course, other options to serve the church if celebacy is not an 'option' for some. But what struck me as odd, is in some of the clips, it seemed that the priests were expressing that it was a forced choice. And that bothered me. Only because they seemed to misrepresent the fact, just as so many others have.

I realize that this may have nothing to do with this thread, and I know we have discussed the issue of celebacy before, but I really wanted to inform everyone about this upcoming 'report' on HBO.

It bothers me because I think it may be misrepresenting the truth.

Right now our diocese is being sued again be people claiming to have been molested 40 years ago by priests dead 30 years ago.
So I have a built in bias against such stuiff, and got disgusted and didn't read the entire article.

Bishop Sheen said if we didn't cleaning up the Church, the Holy Spirit would.
He was a definite prophet.

Amen, amen! Three priests from my diocese were accused of scandal last year by a man who was mentally disabled. They were all acquitted, but went through a year of hell...weren't allowed to celebrate public Mass, etc. Even now, they don't have it easy. Gossip does A LOT of harm even for these poor men who were found not guilty.
