De-extinction. Should we bring back extinct species?

As science progresses, it seems more and more likely that animals such as the woolly mammoth, saber tooth tiger, dodo bird, Tasmanian tiger, etc could be brought back to life.

Should they?

What is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger.

maybe not a good idea.

Dinosaurs, no. The environment in which they lived is gone.

More recent extinctions like the dodo and the passenger pigeon, I'm not sure.

What about the rainforest, could they survive there?

My forestry minor was in genetics. I've always been fascinated by the idea of bringing back species. I'd say no to very old ones, especially those that could kill us. One's taken out by man, maybe. Moa would be my choice.

Theres a great documentary on YouTube about the Germans trying to reverse engineer the Aurochs during the 30's.

~ We should? tinker with what God has made?

~ Does human genetic engineering erode our value and moral status because humanity is turned into a commodity, something we can manufacture, buy and trade up.

~  “thou shalt not kill” or “thou shalt not torture” or “thou shalt uphold the sanctity of human life.”

The thing is, running them into extinction was kind of tinkering with what God had made.

So is the synthesizing of medicines and vaccines if you want to go that route.

So is building a road.

Yeah, in a sense. Maybe more indirectly.
