jimbo Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 The tests are worthless...they all came back negative for me. (I mean nothing showed up.) I was born with CP and bone deformities. Nothing serious.
Dreamweaver Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Does anyone have any statistics on how inaccurate they are? I know someone who had a possible positive result for a DS baby, but the baby ended up being perfectly healthy! A test which gives out so many false positives is crazy, especially since the moms that get them done are usually told that they are accurate. My heart aches at how many children (disabled or nondisabled) have been aborted due to this test. Even if a child is born with DS, so what? They're fully human. Just as someone may be born to be nearsighted, or have weak joints, some have chromosomal abnormalities. yes, it may pose some difficulties in raising a child with DS, but they're always full of happiness. The students with DS in my school were always the happiest people. They'd always be smiling. When two of the students went to prom together, everyone cheered for them during the grand march.
