Fr. Benedict Croell, the vocations director for the St. Joseph (Eastern) Province Dominicans has been emphasizing on social media that this was merely an art project. The Dutch Dominicans have no intention of adopting that as their habit; to do so would require a change in the constitutions of the order.

Thank God it's just an "art project". Even so, it seems like it would be flattering only for those who have a model figure.

In a more serious note, I'm tired of the "Religious habits in the middle ages were very similar to the clothes the lay people wore" argument. It's false. You could easily know religious by their habits; so much so that public penitents were sometimes asked to wear a religious habit as part of their penance.

All I can say is "ugh!" I suppose it's an interesting design challenge.  But traditional religious habits are not only a statement of witness but beautiful objects in and of themselves--clean lines, cloth that folds and drapes well, etc.
