Under civil service, we made an agreement. It's on the up and up, and we see the benefit of the schedule we want.

I've been salary ever since I started with my company ... which was nine years ago. Even when I busted butt in the call center straight out of college making what was truly (in hindsight) a pitiful amount for the stress involved.

I've never been eligible for OT, but I think Winnie's right ... companies throw people into salary positions to avoid OT.

And you're right iron - documentation is so so so important when dealing with any HR issue. (we agree! see! it is possible! :) )

Agreed on the managment issue.

My company had been after me for a few years to move into managment, but I finally (hopefully) got them to leave me alone. Thats when my workload started to slowly increase.

If I move into management, I would work approx. 60-75 hours a week, with no overtime available. Oh, they would increase my pay but with that much time investing into my work, I would never see my husband. So there is always a trade off.

I am good at my job so the opportunity for overtime is next to nothing for me. I get my job done in 40 hours, where others need 50.

I just dont want to see O.T. taken away from me or anyone at my jobsite, especially my husband, who works about 5 hours a week overtime (on a slow week)

So Ironmonk, spell those posts out for me in simple english. Are they saying that if I make over a certain amount, I may not be eligible for overtime? What is the dollar amount limit?

Peace.

Actually to be classified as management, and not get paid overtime (which is known as "salary exempt"), you only can work 20% of the time. Just because someone is salary does not exempt employers from paying overtime. Just because someone is titled a manager doesn't expempt employers from paying overtime.

If you work more than 20% of the time and classified as management, keep track of your hours because you can report it to the Dept. Of Labor (DOL) and they have to pay you overtime.

Tell your company to go to http://www.goNELCO.com and click on the NBA link on the right side of the page... sounds like they could use our services.

The proposal was to secure overtime for low paid workers:
Even EPI concedes that many low-income workers would be gaining the right to overtime pay. Under the proposed rules any employee making less than $425 per week would be eligible for overtime benefits, up from the present level of $155, a figure that hasn't been changed since 1975.  In its study , published in June 2003, EPI said that change "is sorely needed."
No hard working blue collar employees would loose thier overtime. It was a typical lie from the crooks. They steal the truth... therefore they are crooks.

People who might loose OT:

executive employees who can hire and fire others,

administrative employees in a "position of responsibility",

so-called "Learned Professional Employees" who have "knowledge of an advanced type,"

creative professionals,

outside sales workers and

certain computer workers such as systems analysts or software engineers.
Source: http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docid=151

Employers can still pay OT to those workers if they want, but by law they would not have to. The big thing with most companies now is keeping their employee's happy. It's expensive to train new employees with the hope that they will fit in.

Most of the people who would loose overtime would be people making much more money than any blue collar worker.

Rules that I go by....
Never believe the democrats in power, until you research it fully. I have found that about 85% of what democrats in power say is a lie. I have found 99% of the attacks on republican plans are lies.

Take what the republicans say with a grain of salt, and double check what they say. I have found that 90% of what most republicans say is true. I found that 90% of the republican attacks on the democratic plans are true.

Here is an SAT analogy:
Jack Chick is to the Catholic Church what
the democrat party is to the Republican party.

God Bless,

Were I an American (and praise be to Jesus, I live in Canada!) I'd probably vote not for the Democrats or the Republicans, but the Constitution Party. http://www.constitutionparty.com/

Suitably vague. If there's nothing more than this, then the wish to move Captains over to management status may come true.

Gonna send those links to my friends. Thanks, Iron.

Now, if people would just go to jail for such abuses.

I thought this was a thread about the Republicans trying to get the third Harry Potter book added to the New Testament on the third Wednesday of each odd month.

My bad.
