Mother Mary Lange declared Venerable

Mother Mary Lange, founder of the Oblate Sisters of Providence (the first community of Black sisters in the United States, founded in 1829), has been declared Venerable. She is also acknowledged as a spiritual mother to the IHM Sisters of Monroe, Immaculata, and Scranton, since their founder, Theresa Maxis Duchemin, was originally one of the first four Oblates.
