little2add Posted March 29 Posted March 29 March 29, 2026 Pope Leo issues strong rebuke on ‘atrocious’ Iran war in Palm Sunday message In his homily on Sunday, Leo referenced a Bible passage in which Jesus, about to be arrested ahead of his crucifixion, rebuked one of his followers for striking the person arresting him with a sword. “(Jesus) did not arm himself, or defend himself, or fight any war,” Leo said. “He revealed the gentle face of God, who always rejects violence. Rather than saving himself, he allowed himself to be nailed to the cross.”
Anastasia13 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 As much flack as the recent Pope’s might get from being “liberal”, the really do tap into parts of scripture that many in the world or at least America need.
little2add Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 He does make a good point This region of the world is the cradle of civilization human civilization began thousands of years ago in this area and today it is the epicenter of it!
Anomaly Posted April 14 Posted April 14 It can be argued that the US is defending itself from repeated acts of aggression by Iran, in as much as they have fostered terrorism and supported attacks against America. Many diplomatic acts have not been effective in stopping these actions. Trump is the President of the US and a legitimate authority. Despite threats, we are not indiscriminately bombing civilians. attacking now to prevent nuclear weapons is proportional The US is likely to succeed. one may argue these points but they are reasonably valid. It can’t be argued God always argues against violence, though it should be a last resort. The dispute between Francis and Trump is if other actions are likely to be successful in preventing or defending against Iran repeated acts and statements to harm US and Israel.
Didacus Posted April 23 Posted April 23 You've summed it well Anomaly. The case can be viewed in different ways, but a legitimate argument I believe can be made. i am very disappointed that Pope Leo would focus on this matter and less (or at all?) on Christians being massacred throughout the middle east and northern Africa.
