Eucharist And Todah

The word todah denotes a sarificial meal shared with a friend in order to celebrate one's gratitude to God. A todah begins by recalling some mortal threat and then celebrates man's divine deliverance from that threat. It is a powerful expression of confidence in God's sovereignty and mercy.
When Christ was on the Cross you said, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" The people that heard Christ say this would have recognized this verse. It starts off as a cry of dereliction, and ends on a triumphant note of salvation.

Cardnial Joseph Ratzinger has written, "Structurally speaking, the whole of Christology, indeed the whole of Eucharistic Christology, is present in the todah spiritually of the Old Testament." (Feast of Faith p.57)

Ave Maria,

Andy

From what i've learned, the Eucharist is the "todah" ofrering, the only offering left after Christ's Death. As some hebrew prophet's wrote..
If you are still interested in the topic, please read Cardinal Ratzinger's Spirit of the Liturgy in which he talks specifically of the relation between the Todah (most specifically as it regards the sacrifice of Melchizadek) and its fulfillment in the eucharist, which you will find in Chapters One and Two. His writing is deep, but if you can get through it, it is packed with information.
Also, Ratzinger's earlier book, Feast of Faith, profoundly discusses this topic. I love the todah prefigurement of the Eucharist. Thanks for bringing it up peeps!
