cmotherofpirl Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 (edited)
Please provide the church document that states that there are only five non-negotiables of Catholic moral and social teaching. I want to see it. The voting guide from a bunch of Republican theologians at Catholic Answers isn't going to do it. Republicans and Democrats all want to help the poor? The Bush Administration has had four years to help the poor, and their policies have only hurt the poor as well as putting more and more people from the middle class into the working poor and just plain poor classes. Their policies have been demonstrated, time and time again, to hurt the majority of Americans -- while only helping a very wealthy minority. Still, the Bush Administration and the Republicans in Congress will not change their policies in order to help the poor and the middle class. Please explain to me how Republicans want to help the poor. Right. Just 16,000 in a little over a year's time. But that's just peachy.
Has anyone here ever said it was appropriate for the Senate floor? I'd expect this type of argument from the type of person that calls conservatives "Facists" and compares Bush to Hitler.
I don't know if anyone here has ever said that it was appropriate, but the general consensus among conservatives that I've debated with is that Sen. Leahy had it coming and that it was fine for Cheney to say what he said, even on the Senate floor. We won't get into the fascist Bush/Hitler discussion. I don't think all conservatives are fascists, but I do think that an Administration that squelches dissent at their campaign rallies (even to the point of arresting protesters for wearing anti-Bush t-shirts) can indeed be called a fascist Administration. I suppose if they're re-elected, and have nothing to lose because they will not be facing another re-election campaign, we'll see exactly how fascist they can be.
Issuing Executive orders to stop abortion funding stops abortion funding, why do you think the planned babykillers are so upset by it. I live in a Democratic state - do you think the democrats have done a thing for anybody? No. we are losing our mass transit system thanks to them. Catholics answers theologians are just that - Catholic, not republican or democrat, simply faithful ton the teachings of the Church. Congress runs the pork barrel and entitlement programs not the President. President Bush has not killed anyone. Please read the description of the rally at Stuebenville, where Kerry supporters tried to suppress free speech. Edited October 4, 2004 by cmotherofpirl

The discussion is about weather or not it is appropriate here! Not about what the "evil" conservative said, it is ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT IT IS APPROPRIATE HERE!
smeagol Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 does the phrase "expletive deleted" offend you too ?
Thy Geekdom Come Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004
does the phrase "expletive deleted" offend you too ?
Not as much, but it's still clear that the intentions are to rouse anger. We don't do that here.
Thy Geekdom Come Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004
this should be moved to the debate board
No, political threads, including debates, stay here. The debate phorum is for theological debates.

BurkeFan Posted October 5, 2004 Posted October 5, 2004 "One cannot justify a vote for a candidate who promotes intrinsically evil acts which erode the very foundation of the common good, such as abortion and same-sex “marriage,” by appealing to that same candidate’s opposition to war or capital punishment.... "But there is no element of the common good, no morally good practice, that a candidate may promote and to which a voter may be dedicated, which could justify voting for a candidate who also endorses and supports the deliberate killing of the innocent, abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, human cloning or the recognition of a same-sex relationship as legal marriage." -"On Our Civic Responsibility for the Common Good" The Most Reverend Raymond L. Burke, Archbishop of St. Louis http://www.archstl.org/letters/100104pastoral_letter.pdf
