11:11 alert...

Ash Wednesday

Remember that at that exact time the armistice ending the Great War was signed.

Remember those who fought and died for your freedom.

On 11-11 at 11AM, 1918 during the last hour of WWI,
the allied forces made an offensive on German positions
along the French German border. They did this despite knowing
the war would be over officially at noon.
More soldiers died in that hour than on the Normandy landing during WWII.

Fact is, today was originally called, Armistice Day, not Veterans Day.

OK, back to our regularly scheduled programing.

actually, eyewitness accounts state that both sides fiercely fired upon each other, not just the Allies attacking the Germans...it was definitely not a one sided affair...it was the soldier's "farewell to arms." Some soldiers state that when the news came that the war was over at 11 (not noon), many soldiers didn't know what to believe...with the way the war went, they weren't even sure if it was true...so they just kept fighting until their weapons ran out of their bullets...

The Germans fired in defense, as allied forces made an assualt. It is a documented historical fact, that the allies could've just sat out the hour and did nothing, but instead made an assault on German positions, for no reason other than pride of the commanders who ordered the assualt.

Read the book, "Eleventh Month, Eleventh Day, Eleventh Hour: Armistice Day, 1918, World War I and Its Violent Climax" by Joseph Persco.

The assault never had to take place, for they knew the Armistis would go into effect at noon. In fact, at noon, the shooting suddenly came to a stop and all was quiet. The allied soldiers looked around at the dead and wondered, what it was all for.
