at0m1c Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 What is the meaning behind Baptism, Penance and Eucharist? What is the link between them? Which one is the most important?
Pio Nono Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 JMJ 11/14 - Thirty-third Sunday at0m1c, Baptism is meant to cleanse us from original sin and make us children of the Father. Penance cleanses us from actual sins commited in this life so that we might come closer to God and heal the wounds on our souls. The Eucharist is "food for the journey," so to speak, which feeds and nourishes our body and soul so that we might come closer to Christ and spread His kingdom throughout the world. Baptism is like being born - in fact, it is rebirth "in the Spirit." After you're born, you need to eat and take baths - that's the Eucharist and Penance. Baptism is the most important sacrament of all, for without baptism (either by water, desire or blood (cf. St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae, II-IIae, q. 124)) one cannot enter Heaven. Hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
