DemonSlayer Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 The worst thing is that Dan Brown, the author says the book is fictional story based on factual information and he pretty much admitted to hating the Catholic Church in this interview I read.
inDEED Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004
hi inDEED! :wavey:
Hey Lil Red! :wavey:
inDEED Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004
Most people do think it is real already.
Sad, but true...
inDEED Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004
Good as Fiction? How about slanderous? The book is offensive. And to say that Christianity is really just the recreation of the great sex act between Mary Magdalene and Jesus...that's just blasphemy. No, this book is not just fiction. The screenplay for the movie might actually be different. Good example, have you seen the movie the Order? Blasphemy... I urge eveyone out there to realize the vicious and blasphemous assualt that the book the Da Vinci Code is on the Catholic Faith and all of Christianity
I'd see it. It's fiction.
Oik Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 It may be fiction, but it is blasphemous. How can thta not be enough? I talked with a lady today about this and she hit the nail on the head, the Da Vinci Code is like slapping the Lord in the face.
azaelia Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Blasphemy is not entertaining. Garbage in, garbage out.
inDEED Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Thank you all for your "opinions" on the subject. I gotta say though - it's funny how when someone - ANYONE - goes against the grain here @ Phatmass, they're immediately subject to the judgement of many of the regular posters here. Has anyone thought to ask why I might be seeing it? This is the problem here, folks - seek to understand before engaging...otherwise, we'll be turning more people off than bringing them in.
Oik Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 M, my brother, I reread the comments and they aren't uncharitable or judgemental. In my life I hear that a lot and it seems like the card everyone likes to play. It's the "your juding me card." No one said you were a sinner (though we all are sinners who have fallen short of the Golry of God (sidenote: Some quotes you get from growing up in the Bible Beltare good)). No one said anything judgemental. It is our opinion, yes. However, for all us Catholics in the world (and I know you know what i'm talking about), we are in a lose-lose situation. See if the Church continued to publish a list of books that were Blasphemous, then the Church would be called the great oppressor and etc. We no longer live in a Christian friendly world. (I know you know all this. I am only giving context to my point) So in this new world we have to be on guard. Does that mean that sometime we have to check out the things that are in our world? Absolutely. No one implied that you are in sin for reading the Da Vinci Code. I am am trying to say is that you are saying (and this is a paraphase not direct quote) "It is a work of fiction, not a reall book meant to destroy Catholicism." I am saying in reply, the Da Vinci Code is Anti-Catholic propaganda. It is Blasphemous (check out this Oxford-English dictionary's def.) that is, "1. Uttering or expressing profanity, impiously irreverent." Profane's is "2. Applied to persons or things regarded as unholy or as desecrating what is holy or sacred: unhallowed; ritually unclean or polluted; esp. said of the rites of an alien religion: heathen, pagan. 3. Characterized by disregard or contempt of sacred things, esp., in later use, by the taking of God's name in vain; irreverent, blasphemous, ribald; impious, irreligious, wicked." So is Da Vinci code blasphemous? Yes. While the storyline or plot is indeed fiction, the facts and Truths about Catholicism seek to undermine and present hurtful and untrue realities. That's what I (and a few others) are saying. No hard feelings, no insults, no grudges.
inDEED Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 I don't think I ever said that anyone called me out to be a sinner...I coulda told you I was before the Da Vinci Code topic arrived! Still gonna see it...I did buy the book and read it...It was an entertaining story...That's all... No hard feelings, no insults, no grudges...
