Science and God

Ok,

I got this great new job right. Been there almost 2 1/2 months now. Not really a Christian Environment, in fact my boss is very Anti-Christian. He only believes in Science. He wants it to be 'Star Trek' world. He's belief is that if it cannot be proven by Science, it isnt real.

We got into a HUGE debate today. He thinks all Right-Wing Christians should be done away with and Religion be gone.

I got into the discussion about God and why I know He exists.

One point I made was that you cannot see the wind but you know its there.

He responded that you cannot see the wind but if you got a meter you can see the affects of it.

I told him that I can see the Affects from God. He said 'Show Me'.

I had to use the example of the last miracle contributed to Mother Teresa. Where the women in that Africa villiage had that softball size Tumor, I think it was. And the doctors couldnt cure it so they asked for the intercession of Mother Teresa and over night the Tumor was gone.

he said that was just legend and didnt happen. He says the same things about the miracles Jesus' done saying they never happened that people made it up.

Little background on this guy. He is very intelligent, maybe for his own good. His mother was a fanatic pentecostal who is very judgemental against others who are not their faith and shoved her beliefs down this guys throat growing up. So he is turned off by it.

Anyway, my question is how to deal with a person like this? I am praying for him and for his salvation. He is like Thomas was at Pentecost, doubting. And he is the type that will only believe if he sees.

But how can someone talk about God to someone who will only believe Science and thats it?

Any help would be appreciated.

God Bless

my advice is usually girly......

keep working hard.

pray really hard.

actions speak louder than words. If you must DEFEND something, pray and defend, other than offering information, don't, if you can't help it. I work with ppl who are "heathens" (they call themselves this) but when they say, "Man, it was a bad week" or "I don't know what to do" stuff like that.....I always smile and say, "I'll pray for you!" and walk away.....

and since i'm mescan, i always add, "AND light a candle for you!"

HOWEVER, if he's intelligent as you say he is, bring him books, (especially on something he doesn't think exsists) like the incorruptable saints, the Miracle of Lourdes, scientific facts.....i dunno. Ask iron. He knows what to do. He's helped me battle some myself.....

prayers for you!

Sorta, but not really. They have the choice between eternal life and death. Seems like an easy choice to me.

Don't let him get on the babelfish. For those who aren't DNA fans the proof goes like this,
The complexities of the Babelfish make it impposible to have evolved randomly. This is used as a proof for the NON Existance of God.

God says: I shall not prove that I exist for that would defeat faith.

Man replied: But you made the Babelfish which is too complex to have been random, therefore you proved yourself.

God says: Oh I didn't think of that. *Disappears in a poof of logic*

Man later goes on to prove that white is black. He is shortly thereafter killed when he was hit by a bus in an attempt to prove... [I can't rember]
But really, at least for me science merely re states that God is there. I mean... sure it can all be random or it can be guided (my stance). The way everything works together. And when using quantam and relativitive equations to study the Big Band the answer they always get is infinite... kinda like God.

I think I have some stuff about God and science around someplace, I shall see if I can't find it.

Mention the Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano, Italy when the host bled and turned to flesh when it was held up by a doubting priest. In the early 70's, scientists from the World Health Orginization conducted studies that showed it really was human blood(AB I believe, same type found on the Shroud of Turin) and that the cells were from the human heart. There was also something very unusual about the mass of the droplets of blood but I can't remember the details now. Maybe you can find more info. I'm interested in what he would have to say about this.

I see all the intelligent and beautiful things going on in the universe, and I think to myself, "how can there not be a God?"

It's like looking at a glorious work of art, and holding a belief that no artist did it.

All the science in the universe cannot tell us WHY we are here, only how it might have happened. Edited by cmotherofpirl

Great quote Cmom! (I may end up stealing it for my sig sometime)I don't have any specific advice to say or do, besides to continue praying. Also remember St. Francis's words, "Preach the Gospel at all times, and only when necessary use words". Prove that God exists not by words, but by example and faith.

Science and religion can never be at odds. God made everything, including science!
