Gal. 5:22,23 Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 I went to see a priest this week about possibly converting to Catholicism. So much of this meeting left me feeling very uncomfortable. The real red flag, for me, was when he told me that Muslims or Jews who really love God can attain salvation. Well, then why did Jesus say that He was the only way? Does the Church teach this?
Pio Nono Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 JMJ 11/19 - Thirty-third Friday Gal. 5:22,23, The Church teaches firmly, with no uncertain terms, that only Christ has achieved salvation for mankind. Neither Mohammed, nor Buddha, nor Shiva, nor Jupiter...no one, other than Jesus Christ the God-Man can offer salvation to the world. I think what the priest was saying was this - Muslims and Jews, as well as anyone else, is able to acquire salvation, should they be ignorant of the teachings of the Church. If a Muslim truly believes that he has found what is true, and tries to live in accordance with that truth, then he can be saved. Can his faith offer him salvation? No, of course not; but he is able to acquire salvation through the redemptive suffering of Christ. I hope this clears up a little bit of what the Church teaches on this topic for you. You can privately message me should you need more clarification. Yours, Pio Nono
