Lil Red Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 okay, so here's the deal. as a fundraiser, my youth group will be delivering phone books. we get paid by the phone book, like 20 cents per book. we have a large area to cover this year, with several businesses in our area, including the church. well, in the area we are supposed to cover is a Planned Parenthood, but not the one that performs the abortions. here's my dilemma. do we not deliver phone books to PP, or do we not make it an issue? i'm thinking we could call the phone book company and tell them we won't deliver to PP, and maybe they could have someone else deliver to them? i'm just really uncomfortable delivering phone books to PP and getting paid for it. but if i start taking a look at other businesses in our area that the Church might object to, that would kinda defeat the purpose of the fundraiser. thoughts are welcomed.
homeschoolmom Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 deliver it, imho. I don't think they call women to see if they want abortions... stick prayer cards in it...
rachael Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004
okay, so here's the deal. as a fundraiser, my youth group will be delivering phone books. we get paid by the phone book, like 20 cents per book. we have a large area to cover this year, with several businesses in our area, including the church. well, in the area we are supposed to cover is a Planned Parenthood, but not the one that performs the abortions. here's my dilemma. do we not deliver phone books to PP, or do we not make it an issue? i'm thinking we could call the phone book company and tell them we won't deliver to PP, and maybe they could have someone else deliver to them? i'm just really uncomfortable delivering phone books to PP and getting paid for it. but if i start taking a look at other businesses in our area that the Church might object to, that would kinda defeat the purpose of the fundraiser. thoughts are welcomed.
but it's just a phone book, right? i don't think you are promoting anything of PP, so personally i don't see any harm in it.
Lil Red Posted November 25, 2004 Author Posted November 25, 2004
stick prayer cards in it...
i like this idea :thumb:
homeschoolmom Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 and stick em in kinda low... so that when they go to look up a number they just find them all the time... hehehehehe
jmjtina Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 in my opinion, I'd say let someone else, other than a Catholic youth group deliver it. Or maybe let your youth decide. Pro's and Con's, and all that issue. I think the moral dilemma is the fact that Planned Parenthood itself represents a terrible evil , should a Catholic Youth organization sell a phonebook to them? What if that phonebook has bigger effects than we realize? To call a neighboring abortion provider? Since we both work with youth jess, I'd say talk with your youth. hey, it'll make a great youth night! They might suprise you. Mine always do. Prayers Jess.
Carnanc Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 I agree that it would seem uncomfortable, but it seems that delivering phone books is a community service, though I'm not sure who ordinarily delivers the books if there are not fundraising groups.
Fool4Christ Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Bring the issue to your parish priest and let him decide.
crusader1234 Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Definately put in prayer cards and scapulars!
God Conquers Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 I don't see the problem. If there were an ad in the book for PP, then I would have a problem.... But just delivering a phone book? You are not cooperating IN ANY WAY or samnctioning or anything what the clinic is doing.... you're just delivering a phone book.
Sinner Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 20 cents? I send you a buck so you never walk in the place.
CatholicAndFanatical Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 I wouldnt do it they may not do abortions there but they still support it as well as birth control. grab another book, put a prayer card in it and open the door - THROW it in and leave. thats my buck 2.98
mulls Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 if you were a mail carrier, would you not deliver to PP? to me, it looks like the same issue. i say go for it, and yea, the prayer cards or tracts of some sort seem like a great idea. or when you deliver it, let 'em know who you are and what you are doing and why you are doing it.
Lil Red Posted November 25, 2004 Author Posted November 25, 2004 i'm thinking the best way to handle this is talk to my kids about it....if we (i) decide not to deliver them...i will ask the phone book company to.
Dreamweaver Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 I do agree with the people that reccomend placing of holy cards in PP's phonebook! Make sure to get some of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Unborn!
