Guest -:Guest:- Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Hi just wondering what the is the church's view on taking birth control pills to clear up acne. I've been getting it bad lately and my doctor suggested Diane which is acne medication and also works as birth control . I am not having sex and not planning on it. Where I am abstaining from sex, is it really a sin to take this pill for my acne?? And just fyi i've tried pretty much everything and my doctor was saying if i want to cure it this is the way. thanks
Pio Nono Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 JMJ 11/25 - Thanksgiving Day Though there is nothing in the moral order (that I can see - but there's only one person in the world infallible on moral matters) that would prevent you from taking this medication (there is no intention to make you infertile, just to clear up a medical problem), I would be hesitant to undergo this treatment for purely medical reasons. Have you asked your doctor about any possible health problems that could result from taking birth control medication? He says that if you want it cured, then taking this medication would do it...perhaps I'm just an ignorant yahoo from southern Indiana, but the possible health risks (increased risk of cervical cancer, breast cancer, weight gain, mood swings, irratibility) that develop from taking might outweigh the good which you seek. Be up front with your doctor - tell him that birth control medication can cause these things that I'm sure you don't want. See what he says. Hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
