Snarf
I didn't read this entire thread, but I fence epée and may start sabre. In high school I would broad-sword and wooden buckler fight with some friends, but I'm long out of practice. I recently acquired a 22-inch dagger, so I'll revert to using that for defense in broadsword-play. I have a hauberk, coif, and a sugarloaf helm, though I usually let my opponent wear the maille. If I get scars, I can just brag about them later. It hasn't happened yet. I hope to get more maille for christmas, and a more period-accurate sword (I love 1280-1340 style). [/quote] Is your mail butted or riveted? Riveted mail isn't so expensive from india and even though it is in many ways woefully inaccurate, it beats the hell out of butted. Sounds like your period of interest overlaps fairly well with mine. Yours is about 50 years later than my favorite time period but it is still the age of mail. I think a type XIIA or XIIIA would really do wonders for you. Those big, fearsome, two handed cutting swords of the late 13th century are great.
