Robbi Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 I have seen this acronym -SSPX - come up in many posts but have no idea what it stands for?
BLAZEr Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 SSPX stands for Society of St. Pius X (as in "the tenth") It is a religious community founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefevbre after the Second Vatican Council in order to continue the celebration of the traditional Latin Mass. In the 1980's the Archbishop Lefevbre and the society went into schism (breaking from the unity of the Church and the authority of the Pope) when he ordained 4 bishops without the permission of the Bishop of Rome. All members of the Society were given permission to leave the Society and return to the church, but many chose not to. They are considered in Schism.
