do you ever feel like some conversations that take place on pm, flyfree, and in real life theologically go over your head? i feel like that a lot. :( i sometimes feel a little dumb, honestly, because i read these wonderful posts, and i can kinda grasp the meaning, but more than likely, i can't, because really, i'm not into "deep theological study". and i'm not by any means bashing you who are wonderful theological thinkers, i think that my calling is not one of a deep theological nature.

i've even tried to ponder them over a course of several days, but honestly, i don't get "it".

is this making any sense? i hope that God is happy with my simplified self, although i aspire to be more. -_-

like, i believe things not because i've done tons of study, i believe them because i am called (by God) to believe them (note: does not apply to everything). i believe just because.

nevermind, i don't think i'm making much sense.

Actually, you may be surprised, but yes!

We all have our strengths...I used to be upset that I just couldn't do systematic theology like others could and it frustrated me, but I found my niche in mystical theology, TOTB, and counseling, and I couldn't be happier with it.

Personally, I have you in mind as a good counselor...

No, you make perfect sense and I know how you feel. You sound exactly how I feel at times and I'm bothered by my own simplicity not only in mind but in life as well.

At times a lot goes way over my head, and I find at times discussions get to be a little too "More Catholic Than Thou" for me and there are a lot of people I find hard to relate to and identify with. Probably because it is the internet, and I probably take it the wrong way without the physical and voice nuances. Sometimes I take longer breaks from phatmass and I'm probably going to do just that in the near future.

You want to know something funny . . . I get frustrated because I think that most of the people who talk about the theological themes are misapplying both the intention of the writers, the Church documents, and the theological principles themselves.

I get frustrated because I don't think most people know what they are talking about even though they seem to have a lot of flowery sentences.

LOL . . .

Goes to show . . .

In my opinion . . . you are usually not missing much!!!!

i remember one time where i clicked on a thread by Apotheoun talking about theosis......i read like one sentence and im pretty sure a piece of my brain self-imploded......it was awesome

When you do apologetics, you have to be able to explain most concepts in basic english.

So anybody who can do that is far more valuable than someone who can spout paragraphs of flowery sentences.

i think it depends on who you are apologizing to.....for example, if you get a bunch of accomplished debaters together (peter kreeft, patrick madrid, scott hahn, for example) you probably could use the big technical jargon

but for most of the practical examples i have experienced, it is of great use to be able to "dumb it down" so to speak, so as to maximize the efficacy of your argument

so it all depends on your crowd

wow, you all have made me feel so much better! :) thanks! and thanks, blazer, too, for that.

I thought I was the only one who felt simple-minded around here (especially in the debate table). I feel better now. :)

Posted

No worries. I'm pretty simple myself. Its all good. :)

oh man i feel like that all the time. That's why i never post on anything too serious because it never comes out right and then people think i am saying something i am not. Then also someone always says my thoughts better than me so whenever the most brilliant post is put on the thread that is what i was trying to say. ;)
