Guest scott Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 Hey, I was just wondering what the Church says about attending other churches. I go to mass every day of the week, but was wondering if it is ok for me to attend an interdenominational church in addition to sunday mass. Thanks a lot!
cappie Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 I don't know what he rule is in the US but in Australia there is no prohibition (unlike when I was growing up). Provided you fulfil your Sunday obligation there is no law forbidding attending another Christian church. However I caution against "taking communion" which is forbidden as there is no communion with the various protestant churches. The other reservation I have is that some of these churches have an anti Catholicism and would seek to undermine the faith of the catholic person. I once heard it described "To get another scalp". In the past I have attended the local Congregational Church where I had friends and a large Anglo Catholic Church in Sydney where I was good friends with the rector. Neither tried to "convert" me and I was enriched by the preaching at the Congregational church which was not anti Catholic and the liturgy of the Anglican church, which had an attachment to traditional liturgy, devotion to Mary and respect for the Pope, something unfortunately you don't get in all Catholic Churches. My caution is check out the teaching of the church and their stance viz a viz the Catholic Church
