Have any of you men discerning ever thought you might be called to be a hermit? I have never heard of anyone else talk about it. I myself am now discerning a possible call to be a hermit. Thanks!

I always liked the story of St. Simon Stock, who was a hermit, and I used to think about what it would be like to be one... but then again, I'm not a man. :)

A homeschooling family in my parish told me that their daughter wants to be a hermit. The little girl is in fourth grade, and she built a hut out of cardboard in the woods behind their house.

Ain't that the cutest thing ya ever heard?

I know a hermit who lives out near St. Meinrad in southern Indiana. He's a Benedictine monk who has been given permission to live as a hermit, taking care of one of the shrines run by St. Meinrad. Cool cat.

Neat things to hear!

Do they have female hermits? Obviously, if the Church does, they wouldn't be with men.

I am looking into the Carmelite Hermits

Hey All! I do know of two orders of female hermits.
Hermits of Jesus the Eternal Priest

They are of the Maronite rite

and the Hermit Sisters of Mary

I also found the definition of a diocesan hermit

Here is a partial listing of male and female hermitages

Hope that helps!

Wasn't Julian of Norwich considered a hermit? I don't think she belonged to an order. She just kinda locked herself in a room and wrote mystic literature. I'm fulla respect for the mystics.
