Is Corny!

Get over it

Take a look at these artist you been posting about lately...they represent garbage.

Booty shaking videos, lyrics about hustling, jewelery weed, and booze...it's all bad for your brain.

Dont start about tupac....yeah he might have had a few positive lyrics here or there, but come on!!!....what about all the songs about murder, sex, weed and money?

He was an actor straight up.....what about his song "hit um up" where he was talking about killing other artist's kids??

Listening to music is like going to the movies. You have to know what's just irredemable garbage, what's going to offer SOMETHING of substance (even if you have to shift through a lot of garbage), and what is good. It's a thin line between keeping yourself unstained from the world and not burying your head in the sand from popular culture.

No.

The reason I ask is because If you purchase this music or listen to it on the radio you are supporting it in one way or another.

Seems like now a days everyone is consumed with the ghetto life.

Trust me...you want no part of it.

The ghetto will eat you alive.

I'm not trying to play mister tuff guy either....I just know from experience.

I'm not trying to bug out on anyone, but part of the reason why we made Massmatics was to give the Catholic youth (you guys) an alternative to all the trash on the radio.

To see this forum consumed with what were trying to fight against is alarming.

Listen to "Platinum Poison" Fr. Pontifex dedicated a whole track about it.

That would constitue remote material cooperation, however. When I go to the movies and watch The Lord of the Rings, am I support the actors and the director, and Hollywood in general? In a remote sense, yes. But I'm going there to get what I can out of the movie, not to support everything in the background. The same is true of books. I might buy The Book of Mormon or The Koran to read for apologetics. Yes, I may be supporting the production of their falsehoods. But that is not my intent. The same would be true if I bought a particular album. It all depends on what I do with it.

Definitely, we need that. I mean, with a CD like Massmatics, I can listen to it and just enjoy it. I wouldn't do that with a secular album. Constantly playing Eminem in my brain is just going to rot it out. I can listen once or twice to see what he's saying, how he's saying it, etc. But I wouldn't ruminate with it in my CD player.

Also, I wouldn't have the radio on if someone else were in my car. I listen to secular hip hop alone, or I don't listen at all. When I listen, I know what I'm avoiding and what I'm trying to do. I can't do that in someone else's brain.

The street has a lot of spiritually empty people with nowhere to turn. You look into their eyes and there's nothing but emptiness. It's a dead end.

It's apples and oranges man..... Two different things. Those things you mentioned are not borderline porn. Mainstream rap music in my opinion is.

Ermite, You seem like an educated young man, you may be able to differentiate between whats trash and whats not, and why. Others who may not be as educated might not be able to.

I agree with your larger point that many people are not able to sift through hip hop music in general. Prudence must always dictate what you take in from popular culture.

lol this board's nuts. I admit that i dont consider any mainstream rappers "real" cuz they always contradict themselves or ryme about the dumbest things. Now, they still are good artists, I dont think we should stop listening to them. I think it'd be better to lessen the listening of that kinda stuff kuz it'll put u into a mindset of that music. I think its aight that we talk about the artists at times. They do have good rymes and sometimes some good messages even though they have a lotta bad stuff too.

Okay, now I'm goin' on a completely different topic :)

Anyways, yeah I don't listen to secular music at all. At least, I choose not to. My lil bro listens to it all the time, it's practically all he'll listen to. I can't stand the stuff.

i dont like mainstream that is nothing but trash..its not real.....it spiritually attacks and eats up my kids. it portrays something bad as something good, tries to make the thug life "The Life" and seeks to glamourize a lifestyle of sin. their ghettos are beverly hills and mulit-millon dollar suites, what are ours? we live in are the projects and broken homes...those are the real ones.... and theres nothing "cool" about that <_<
