Guest Aluigi Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 wow, that was a sweet movie. definitely Catholic, and old-school non-pacifist Catholic at that! one of my all time favorite movies of all time, and not only are they Catholic but they are IRISH!! i seriously want an Irish accent. that would be soo dope.
Guest Aluigi Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 (edited) anyway, these guys are definitely saints in my book! Edited December 30, 2004 by Aluigi
azaelia Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 It was entertaining, but by no means do I consider their actions saintly.
Fiat_Voluntas_Tua Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 It seemed like it was easy for ignorant people to believe that the Church support that kind of conduct...But it was entertaining...not very eddifying though. Totus Tuus, Andrew Jospeh

Guest Aluigi Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 i don't find it blasphemous at all, a bit extreme maybe, but so were some saints in the same regard as well. anyway, i want one of those rosaries like they had with the celtic cross some saints were quite violent, like crusaders. it's not practical, but it's not THAT bad of an idea.
Guest Aluigi Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 (edited) it's basically two irish catholics that go around killing mob bosses and notorious hitmen in the Name of God. I had never heard of it before either. Edited December 31, 2004 by Aluigi

Guest Aluigi Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 considering some of the Crusader Saints out there... i donno, the actions don't seem that damnable to me. maybe maybe not call them "saintly" actions but still.
Guest Aluigi Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 murder is damnable. is this murder? ehh... i guess they're not really a just authority. if they were it wouldn't be considered murder. but that line is just a little sketchy for me.. because the state would have been justified in executing such heinous criminals. every one of their victims had shed blood and would continue to cause the shedding of blood. thus they had forfeited their own life (for their life had become the cause of others' deaths). so who is the authority in this small Irish neighborhood? "boondock" if I'm not mistaken means in a foreign land. these people are Irish in a foreign land. perhaps they have authority over their own community. I don't know. maybe the cop's approval constitutes authority? in any event, the people they were killing were all people who had forfeited their own lives. the only problem with it is that it's mercenary justice, and the Church is opposed to that for the same reason She is opposed to (full) democracy, mobs should not rule but just authority has the Divine Right to rule. i sypathize with them, they shed the blood of the wicked not the innocent. if they were of the state, it would have been just. so I hesitate to simply condemn them because they weren't connected with a government.
DemonSlayer Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 (edited) I have'nt seen the film though, so I don't even know how it happens. Edited December 31, 2004 by DemonSlayer
Guest Aluigi Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 well basically, every person they go after is a mob boss or a big hitman. they kill 2 hitmen first in self defense. then they begin killing other mob people. the italian guy killing the two others and the bartender was personal vengeance basically, i can't see that as just. but all the others were big time mob bosses and hitmen whose lives caused others deaths. they had forfeited their own lives (homicide in the Christian Tradition is basically also suicide at the same time). a legitimate authority would be just in executing these people. the boondock saints, are they a legitimate authority? probably not. but i really sympathize with their actions and can't bring myself to call them damnable.
