conservativecatholic Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 I am presently an altar boy. Ringing bells, swinging the thurible, and processing with the cross. Got to love it!
Noel's angel Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 i wanted to be an altar girl when i was younger, but my mum wouldnt let me cause i had too many other commitments. now im involved heavily in the choir, so that kinda makes up for it
MilesChristi Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005
I am presently an altar boy. Ringing bells, swinging the thurible, and processing with the cross. Got to love it!
Me too! I've been serving at the Lord's altar for 10 years now, and I don't plan to stop anytime soon.
Paladin D Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 I served as an altar server for 3 years, now I'm one again and have been doing it for several months now.

Q the Ninja Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 I just became an altar boy last year and will soon petition the Bishop about the Acolytate.
raptor13 Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 yep. veteran altar server. extensive operational experience including baptisms, marriages, funeral Masses, even an ordination of a priest (one of the most sublime and awesome experiences i have ever had the honor of serving in). i no longer serve regularly though (the unofficial retirement time for altar servers in my parish is when you grow taller than the priest), but every now and then i still get called in ever to do special Masses, especially around the Triduum and other big feast days.
Soldier4Him Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 i was the first girl at my parish to serve! me and one other girl served the first female server mass. it was awesome! i'm done now, since "retirement" for us was graduation from high school. now i lector.
Colleen Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Not to spark a debate or be judgmental, but I've personally never really liked the idea of girl altar servers. I know that it is allowed, but isn't it only when boys are not available to serve? I dunno, I guess it just makes me uncomfortable. Anyway, two of my brothers are altar boys. They think it's cool.
Q the Ninja Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Until the USCCB had their say that's what the Holy See taught/teaches.
