Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 I was talking with Sister Mary Imelda O.P. earlier and we were talking about my debts from school and dowry. I know that I may be able to take care of the debts and I was expecting that, but now I have to worry about getting health insurance, buy the items on the trousseau list, and a dowry from my parents. I really want to enter the convent as soon as I can, but these are things I've never really encountered before and they have me kinda worried... What am i going to do?

[/quote] I don't have personal experience with that yet, so I would say your best bet would be to ask your parish priest- and the sisters- they all had questions like that at one time.

The more I talk with Sister Mary Imelda O.P. about it, the more I want to be there! At first I wasn't entirely sure about the order, but they just excite me!

Also, I remember Julie (sista2b) mentioned that she had a "nun shower," like a wedding shower, before her entrance to help out with the trousseau.

Andrea348 Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 julie was saintsomeday, not sista2b, that was ali..... anywho....when julie entered the nashville dominicans, she had to come up the money for her health insurance the first year and she had a list of stuff she needed to bring.... Second, I highly recommend the Labooure Foundation for helping you with college debts. A girl I know, Katie Z. (now Sr. Mary Bethany) used them and all of her debts were paid off just in time for her entrance! Thirdly, I know that Julie sold her stuff on ebay, which is another way to get rid of material posessions AND get money. On a side note I think it's great what you are doing, that congregation so needs strong, young souls! Hope your visit is reflective, fufilling and joyous!

He's the leadership formation director at my seminary. He's also got enough money to put all you girls through college so's you can go to the convent.
jgirl Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 That's cool about the Laboure Foundation! I'm going to have to look into that as a way to help me to enter somewhere by 2006! Right now I have a high interest savings account for my "nun fund," but the foundation sounds pretty cool.

Keep praying friends! When I wanted to go to a Come And See retreat for Regnum Christi (coming up in FEb.) my mom and I decided to go half on the flight, but then a few days later, my good friend called and said she would pay for the flight with her air milage card. Then, the youth minister for my parish gave me a Christmas present of paying for the retreat. It was so awesome ... "As and you shall recieve. Knock and the shall be opened." Love, Mel

I hope you have better luck with the Labore Foundation, as I could never get them to return email or voice mails. they sound wonderful, but... Lastly, most orders require postulants to cover their own insurance needs during the time of postulancy and or novitiate. Its not unusual. peace...
dee_lt4life Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 Hi, there's also the Frasier Family Foundation out of VA. I have to look in my old emails to find Corey's address. They are who I've applied with. I like this foundation much more b/c its less people involved. The FFF works like this: if they approve you for the grant, then they make your payments, and accelerate them once you take vows. And, five years after vows, the loans are done. Also, they keep in touch with how you're doing during formation. If you're interested, I will find the email address. But, I don't want to put it on the air waves (for potential spam).
