azaelia Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Read this thread first if you haven't: http://phorum.phatmass.com/index.php?showtopic=26893&hl= Now, this person has both emailed me and commented on the entry on my website. She then proceeded to block my email so I couldn't respond privately to her. So this is my open letter to her:
A comment in response to Tuesday's entry: If you write [your opinions] and show them to the public, your going to get comments on them, if you can't handle the comments, you shouldn't tell them to people. It's not my fault your juding other people, you judge me, im going to judge you. Deal with it. My response: Jolene, honey, apparently you have trouble comprehending the English language. I essentially challenged you to comment on my opinions...directly. You, however, chose to discuss them indirectly. And now you have the gall to say that I have a problem with the criticism of my opinions. How delightfully ironic. Furthermore, this has nothing to do with anyone judging me for my opinions. It has everything to do with your belittlement of them without a coherent argument to back up your disagreements or the courage to actually express your displeasure with them on my site. Instead you opted for the cryptic guestbook message which means nothing to me unless I am informed, by your website, of the reason for it. You are naive indeed if you think you have the right to accuse me of "not being able to handle comments" when you yourself show a complete inability to handle comments on your own site, whether defensive or offensive. An email sent to me today: You are not going to tell me what i can, and i can't write on my site, if i want to write, if i want to write your a silly sally on my site, I will. It's not my fault you can't handle comments. My response: It appears you have blocked my email. How delightfully hypocritical of you. You send me an email telling me I can't handle criticism, and you promptly block my email so I can't respond. Who can't handle criticism, again? Now you can say whatever you want about me, and I won't be able to respond. At least I have the courtesy to allow your comments. I don't have to. I can easily block you from my entire website. But I won't. I at least try not to be a hypocrit. You, on the other hand, blatantly flaunt your hypocrisy. No matter. It seems you've taken down that entry anyway, despite your assertions. There's nothing more to discuss here. I wish you and your son the best. - Amy
So...do you think I was right in responding this way? I feel like I could have been a little less sarcastic, but I also feel like it was needed considering the tone of both responses on her part. I need an outsider's thoughts on this. So?
BullnaChinaShop Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Looks like you handled it ok to me. Funny how you pointing out her lack of logic made her think you were attempting to censor her. She obviously can't tell the difference between criticism and censorship.
WillT Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Looks to me like you did a good job of defending yourself without being too hard on her. Good job!
XIX Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 For a while I was just thinking "be gentle, be gentle...okay good" I'd say you were all right. Makesure you don't just plow her--which I don't think you have. And she really doesn't seem at all receptive to 2-way dialogue. So if she doesn't seem at all interested in conversing with you, don't waste much time trying to converse with her. Make your point, and if it's obvious she doesn't care, then pursuing is further might become counter-productive. Don't let her be a threatto your own soul, here.
cmotherofpirl Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Now you need to just forget it ever happened.
azaelia Posted January 8, 2005 Author Posted January 8, 2005 AHHHHH! It just never ends!!! She commented on my site again claiming she never blocked my email and that I was just too scared to email her back. How would I know she had blocked me if I hadn't tried to email her?!? So I gave her the benefit of the doubt and tried to email her back...and I'm still unable to get through. AAARRRGGGG!!!! So now she's bashing me on her own site (oh I guess it's ok for her), saying I wasn't mature enough to email her privately... So I commented on her site (final time) and this is what I said:
I removed your last name. For that I apologize. As for you blocking my email, you might want to check your email settings, because I have tried TWICE to email you privately and it won't let me through. Here's the message I received: jojo@mtxsys.com SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<jojo@mtxsys.com>: host mail.mtxsys.com <24.75.44.9>: 550 5.7.1 <jojo@mtxsys.com>... Mail from 216.180.225.82 refused - see http://www.spamhaus.org/SBL/ My IP is blocked from your email by a spam blocker. Explain to me how I'm supposed to interpret that. And now I'm confused how you can rant about me online but when I retaliate, I'm out of line. The hypocrisy is amazing. But whatever, this thing has run it's course, at least for me. So I will cease and desist, and I hope you do the same.
Can someone just give me a hug now?
Lil Red Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005  just breathe and realize some people are not umm, cool, for a lack of a more charitable phrase...
azaelia Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 Is it bad that I'm afraid to look at my own website now?
WillT Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005
Is it bad that I'm afraid to look at my own website now?
Don't let one bad apple keep you from what you enjoy. P.S. I'll beat her up for you if you want.
rachael Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005
P.S. I'll beat her up for you if you want.
you? beat someone up? :rotfl: but you're too nice.
azaelia Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 You don't have to beat her up. Actually, she emailed me a few hours ago and apologized... <-- That was my reaction. I'm glad people continue to amaze me. If they didn't, I think I might have locked myself in a remote hut in the mountains long ago.
journeyman Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 (edited) my first rule for e-mail when the steam is coming off my head: save it, read it again tomorrow, and if the steam comes back, save it again * hug * * hug * * hug * * hug * * hug * Take a deep breath - pray the rosary - write a script for the website that says after X attempts to communicate with the {person} - which were met with the following non-responsive responses - this site is off limits for her * hug * * hug * * hug * * hug * * hug * Take a deep breath - pray the rosary - and remember there is no such thing as bad press - someone is going to read about you over there and come look to see your site - and that person may become your friend (and my name may be pollyanna) * hug * * hug * * hug * * hug * * hug * I say listen to cmom - forget the {person} and go help your Dad celebrate {"Never reprimand anyone while you feel provoked over a fault that has been committed. Wait until the next day, or even longer. Then make your remonstrance calmly and with a purified intention. You'll gain more with an affectionate word than you ever would from three hours of quarreling. Control your temper." - St Josemaria Escriva} Edited January 9, 2005 by journeyman
