This is just me offering prayers for the continued work of Catholic missionaries. One in six people on the planet is Catholic but we can do better.

yes we can lets keep up the good work.

but how many of those are "Catholic in name only"

You would think that with 1 in 6 peeps being Catholic - the Church would be one of the wealthiest organizations in the world.

It is interesting. In America at least, the average Catholic gives less to the Church than the average protestant or jew. Let's not stint when the collection basket rolls around people...

Nah...most Catholics are dirt poor...even more than you or me, Adam...I love being a poor Catholic...feels like being a hobbit...no wealth of material, but wealth of much greater things...

Yes yes, how many of those "1 in 6" Catholics are John Kerry type Catholics, as in they're not really Catholics, but Catholic enough to be included as Catholic in polls?

That's pretty recent in terms of global population. Or do you think a billion people have been born in the interim?

I tend to get insecure about my faith when i see Catholicism appearing to fail in some areas. I mean, it seems like my beliefs are in such a minority--can that many non-Catholics all be wrong? Not that I embrace that way of thinking by any means, but I do start thinking...

The other bad thing is that I just get worried about everybody else.

i heard that the orthodox churches are getting closer and closer to coming back into communion with the Church...apparently they were talking about coming back into communion as in terms of being able to share Eucharist at mass, but EO decided to hold off until we could be in full communion--do the thing right. and i've heard that the anglican church is going through a lot of bad stuff...so i'm praying that through that God will bring them back into the arms of the Church.

this is all kinda secondhand info...but if it's true...praise God! coming closer to a unity we haven't had for a thousand years.

There are many parts of the world where the Catholic faith is flourishing, you just don't hear about them that much. Africa (especially Nigeria) is having a huge abundance of priests and religious vocations nowadays. I'm sure China has a considerable Catholic following, too bad its all pushed underground (and the poor priests which are in prison!). :sadder:

We can't forget countries colonized by Spain; Latin America and the Phillipines. And Malta! Malta is cool. :P

I think something alot of people of any religion need to realize is that there are people out there who wont ever share your beliefs... and we all need to be cool with other people believing diffrently from ourselves... im just saying we shouldnt try and force people to beileve as we do, or condem them for believing diffrently... that doesnt do any good.

anyway thats my random thought for the day- thank you all.

Force and convince are two different things. I've converted a couple of people myself. Are you saying that I shouldn't have tried? Or are you saying that I just shouldn't have used the stun guns and handcuffs? :P

The Church IS one of the wealthiest organiztions on Earth. And the largest single religious org. The largest charity. The largest One True Faith. And I think a lot more of that billion are Catholic down to their very core than we stuffed North Americans and Western Europeans think. And I think the large majority of nominal Catholics really would like to experience the faith more deeply, but sometimes "good" Catholics act like gate-keepers.

...the stun gun might be a bit much...

but seriously... im not trying to say that there is anything wrong with helping people convert... but converting people who dont want to be converted is something else... more so i was trying to say that i dont like people, and this anybody, who condems those of diffrent religious beliefs... so convert away... just dont go shoving the faith down anybodys throats... thats all im saying.

...but handcuffs... you might be on to something there...
