rachael Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 My youth group has been going downhill lately. No, it's not really the program that's going downhill, but rather, the people in it. My greatest friends used to be the people in my youth group. Lately, they've been getting very cliquey and snobbish. Many of them have been developing holier-than-thou kind of attitudes. If you're not perfect and make a mistake, they snub you. They've been excluding several people from the group, including me. It's getting so bad that some people don't come to church at all anymore or they've switched parishes. I've confronted a couple of these people about thier attitudes and actions, but none of them will agree to what is going on. They will all point their fingers at me and say I'm the one with the problem and that I should just get over it. I've talked to some other people who are having the same issues and I am, and they too have confronted these people. In turn, they get the same reaction as I have been getting. At this rate, by the end of the semester, I won't have anymore friends at church, but for some reason that does not sadden me at all. I'm really getting tired of this carp. Any suggestions? Sorry if this was confusing....
picchick Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 I am not sure what to tell you. The youth group by me used to be like that. It is starting to get better now that we have a new youth minister. It took years for us though.
myduwigd Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 pray. pray a lot. ill help you. often times when a church organization goes down hill its because they have lost the prayer coverage and intimicy with GOd; because when you have these things God shows you where you are going wrong and will protect you from this happening.
toledo_jesus Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 it may be time to leave these friends behind you as you progress spiritually. If the youth group no longer serves to enrich your life, you should eschew it.
rachael Posted January 23, 2005 Author Posted January 23, 2005 it's a good thing i'm going to college soon.

Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 have you talked with your leader/youth minister about this? Usually they are the ones to notice this first and say something. It was very commendable for you to confront them about this. You would think they would get the picture after so many people telling them that. But, if that continues, they will find that they have on one else other than themselves and the little demons persudaing them to think and act this way. (Maybe you should see if you could get them excorcised... ) Keep up your prayers, ask for intercession of the Blessed Mother and the Saints. Mostly, still show them kindness. Although they have upset you, it would only make things worse to upset them in the way you are. Remain the better of the two, the humble one. Youth Ministry can be like trying to tame wild lions who have been starved for a week. I'm not even a youth minister, but the youth know when something is wrong. I wish you the best, and I pray that your youth group will become more Christ centered and humble. Godspeed!
rachael Posted January 23, 2005 Author Posted January 23, 2005 My friend went to the youth minister, but even the youth minister doesn't sense anything wrong....

[/quote] That is crazy... maybe you need to have a sit in protest You know, sometimes if more than one person brings it up, they sometimes will think that there is a reason they should "investigate" Plus Youth ministry is for EVERYONE, not just the elite and Holy... I know what you mean... a few friends of mine will go to a Steubenville confrence, get all hyped about being Catholic, experience something, but the t-shirt, wear it alot, and then go talking with their friends about how they got drunk and what their favorite drinks are, when they are way underage... that just sickens me...
rachael Posted January 23, 2005 Author Posted January 23, 2005 me too, but this kind of goes the opposite direction. they act all perfect, but when someone makes a mistake, they then are considered unholy and unworthy to talk to.

Ora et Labora Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Your Kingdom Come! I would say just to pray about it, and then hold a Youth Group meeting and talk about it...than pray some more...I am lucky. My Parish Youth Group is awesome! We raise money for the Foundation fo Life in Houston all the time...In fact, thats all we raise money for! But it is postponed ntill someone wants to take the spot of president. I will pray for the members of your AYouth Group. -Kristina
