after a discussion on another thread, i thought it would be nice if everyone put up a picture of their family crest and maybe some information about it.

here's mine:

First found in Agyllshire where they were seated from early times and their first records appeared on the early census rolls taken by the early Kings of Britain to determine the rate of taxation of their subjects.

Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: Archibald McMillan settled in Wilmington N.C. in 1774; along with Ivor and his wife Jean, James, Malcolm his wife Catherine and three sons; John McMillan was banished from the west country of England and arrived in New England in 1685.

Motto Translated: I learn to succour the distressed.

Motto: Vincere vel Mori

Translation: Conquer or Die

I've also seen the motto "Fortis et Hospitalis" with the same coat of arms, which means "Strong and Friendly."

Not sure.. I think there are websites where you can look up your family crest (not the toothpaste!!!). What kind of surname do you have? Irish, English, etc..?

That's my grandmother's family crest. We have our ancestry dated back all the way to the 16th century in France. The Rivard brothers moved to Canada. Then fast forward about four hundred years, and my grandmother moved to America. ^_^
