Fidei Defensor Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 My friend and I are in disagreement about the result of Jesus's death. She says that Jesus's death gives us automatic forgiveness. I then replied saying that His death allowed us to seek forgiveness and repent, but it isnt automatic. You must chose to repent, but he wont turn you away when you do. Could you please clear this up for us? Thanks
Adeodatus Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 You are right. Jesus's death redeemed the whole creation. With His Resurrection and ascension, He is Lord of all things and all things must be subjected to Him----and the last is death, at His second coming. He is Lord of all, even of those who hate Him and do not want His forgiveness. But our redemption does not mean an automatic forgiveness. You can't be forgiven by God unless you want to be forgiven. Keep in mind that our repentence, our desire for forgiveness is also God's grace working in us, drawing us to Himself so that He may heal and forgive us.
