Brother Adam Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 My cousins classmate just committed suicide I'm in shock.
jezic Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 suicide is one of those horrible tragedies that should not ever happen. Sometimes it is hard to grasp why it works this way. I think all that we can really do is pray. It takes a while to get over the shock though.
jiyoung Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 =T man... suicide is always hard to deal with. all you can do is pray. in the past year two people i knew committed suicide...it's done, but you can still pray for them. going on a theological bend...i heard that suicide is no longer considered a mortal sin because the individual is not considered of sound mental health? and one of the requirements of mortal sin is that the sinner has full knowledge of how serious his actions are. if you're not quite mentally stable you can't really know what you're doing, right..? this has been kinda torturing me since last year when a guy at my church committed suicide...
Mrs. Bro. Adam Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Good question....I'd post it in the Q&A forum if I were you
jezic Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 i just saw this in the catechism. I don't remember exactly but it says something to the effect of it is still a grave evil to take life, however in ways known to God alone people that take their own lives can still have salvation.
crusader1234 Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Like Jezic said, its God alone that knows. Sometimes people are being selfish, sometimes they're just broken, sometimes its a chemical inbalance. Maybe we should start a chaplet of divine mercy...
jimbo Posted February 1, 2005 Posted February 1, 2005 Suicide is an awful thing. I made an attempt myself last year... Prayers for all those afflicted.
karin Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 a divine mercy chaplet is started if you want to use it for this
Luthien Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 I wish people could realize how much the taking of their own life affect everyone around them, not just themselves. I mean, this person has never met us, and it affects us in some way. Praying always.
cmotherofpirl Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Usually when you are suicidal you have tunnel vision, you see nothing outside yourself and you just want to end the pain. Rarely does one realize the effect it will have on other people.

Seven77 Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005
it is still a grave evil to take life, however in ways known to God alone people that take their own lives can still have salvation.
that reminds me of what St John Vianney told a woman who was crying about her husband who jumped off a bridge and she was worried about the salvation of his soul. He consoled her "between the bridge and the river He cried out to Jesus for forgiveness" This grace of final repentance was granted due to the fact that the man used to pray a short prayer in front of a statue of Our Lady. prayers... i know what that temptation is like.. the battle is on the thought level... dismissing thoughts of suicide like dismissing impure thoughts and then filling them with joyful ones is the key.
Cathurian Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Cathurian Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 All the angels, and all the saints, please pray for us!
