argent_paladin Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I pray that it won't be for years, but someday, God will call his faithful servant, Karol Wojtila, Pope John Paul II, home. The vast majority on phatmass have never known another pope. I'm for Hummes. He is not too young. He's respected. Also, he is Latin which means he is culturally similar to the Italians, from an overwhelmingly Catholic continent and able to relate with the US. He is pastoral, as he has been an archbishop for years. Your thoughts?
Fides_et_Ratio Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I'd rather Pope JPII be around for a long, long time... But, if it were up to me, I'd pray Ratzinger or Schonborn were the next.
toledo_jesus Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 probably nobody over 65. Pray not an American. Remember, enter a pope, leave a cardinal. don't jinx your pick by voting for him.
argent_paladin Posted February 7, 2005 Author Posted February 7, 2005 I actually think it will be someone older, over 70. He would be a transition pope. Even someone over seventy could last a decade or more. The church needs to figure out how to deal with potentially very long reigns due to medical advances.
jezic Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I would hope that we have another pope. I am sure if there is enough time left, we will. It is just strange now. Any day man could destroy himself, one or two nuclear bombs and chuncks of the world are missing. the terrorists know that.
toledo_jesus Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 the next pope needs to be strongly orthodox...not afraid to speak out against liturgical abuses, and correct them...also excommunicate people. especially in america.
the_rev Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Ratzinger won't even be apart of the election due to his age.
PaxVobis Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Cardinals are allowed to vote until they are 80 i believe.. he has three years left. Peace, Tony
Guest Eremite Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005
Pray not an American.
There are quite a few American Bishops who have a special place in my heart, and who I wouldn't mind seeing in the throne of St. Peter. Bishops Bruskewitz is foremost among them, but also Bishop Burke, Archbishop Donaghue, and many others. But, if I had my druthers, it would be Cardinal Ratzinger. (Are you listening, Most Holy Trinity?)

jgirl Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I pray that it's Arinze because he is awesome! Schoenborn is pretty cool, too. "Loving the Church," is a good Lenten read. Giovanni Battista Re and Tettamanzi are ones to watch out for, too

popestpiusx Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Cardinal Stickler has my vote (not that my vote is worth anything).
MC Just Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I pray the next pope isnt liberal.. Which will make him a anti-Pope.
